I wonder why that guy in the video said it's only 5500 pounds to repair or whatever but it's $25k-$30k from the guys who have had it done.

Cutting corners?

Yeah, I noticed that too. The one guy on Rennlist who posted the pics of the Porsche frame jigs being used looked like the front half of the car's frame was being rebuilt. The guy in that vid says he can do it by just moving some stuff out of the way.

So... JB Weld and DuckTape won't fix this, I guess?

Wow! I am very disappointed in Porsche for not warranting a failure like that. A GT4 was something I was seriously considering trading the GT350 for.

The owners will probably have to file a class action suite like what happened for the 971A motors in the 996 and 997.1 911s to get a settlement. I’d file with the NTSA (in the US anyhow) as a safety flaw if I was one of them. The new V4 panigale had a serious problem with an oil line breaking and a person filed with them. Then Ducati issued a recall. The line would crack and spew oil all over the rear tire. People crashed and bikes were documented to have caught fire.

Well, the Alpha platform uses aluminum for the front shock towers, although they have a hell of a lot more bracing compared to the GT4.
Many different cars are using cast aluminum strut towers now for weight savings. The Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform (Giulia, Stelvio) also has a large cast aluminum strut tower section but has structural ribbing throughout. It seems Porsche lacks structural ribbing reinforcement just as an observation.

He did the GT3. Great car, and I've been thinking the same (or RS) (waiting on the 500). He'll be along I'm sure...
Are you thinking of trading in or adding the RS to the stable?

GT4 is the one other car I would have considered near the price range of the R. There are times when I'd prefer the smaller size of the GT4, but that's also because I was used to smaller cars prior to getting the R.
Same here. However, there is that feeling that I will have sellers remorse if I get rid of the R.

I'm keeping two Rs. The TY R will have to go to make room for the 500. If the 500 doesn't work out (which I hope is not the case), then I will be looking hard at the GT3 or RS.

If I only had one, I would be very resistant to sell it.

Interesting thread. After 5 alternators, a new trans (TSB created from the issues), clutch, PCM, 2 AC compressors, brakes, I'm actually looking at the GT4 as well. All of my issues have been covered under warranty, although a huge inconvenience due to having to get rentals every month or two and wait on tow truck drivers at the most random times. Haven't really had the chance to take the car out to have fun with it because of all the issues.

The GT4 looks extremely tempting now. Will wait to see if Ford will be replacing my engine now (or repairing it) before making the move. Definitely time!

FWIW, have been on track with about 50 gt4 and the R is significantly faster track car. Don’t even get me started on the difference in sound...

It is a pretty car, but I’d say go gt3 or stay with the gt350 or R.

That strut tower thing is terrifying.

If that failure is anywhere near common, NHTSA will be all over it and Porsche will have to deal.....
