Hey Guys, I tried searching far and wide for information regarding possibly swapping out the MT82 in my boss 302 for a TR3160 transmission thats found in the GT350. I have tracked my GT350 when I had it and loved it, now this shifter in the boss locking me out of gears and is not as nice to shift, i have ordered the MGW race shifter and supposedly that should fix the issues im having, but I want to go ahead and explore this

All other threads ive found end up nowhere, im hoping someone might have any new info if this swap is possible? The only thing ive gathered is that you may need a custom drive shaft. Some say its possible, others say it wont work. Im not sure what is right. Those threads date back to 2014-2015

Pretty sure there's nothing out there yet that will accommodate a 3160 into a Coyote. There are T56 swaps though with shorter gearing that people put into S197's all the time. But that'll be a different feel than the 3160.

The issue with the lockout isnt just the shifter its the clutch sticking, a tilton twin disk should help things as well. But the MT82 also doesnt have any coolers...

Ask 200MPHCOBRA. He seemed to figure out a fix. I was going to do the below to my Boss or get the 350, but I went and got the 350.

I can tell you what doesn't work, high flow lines, removing the helper spring, stiff trans mount bushing, shifter, separate reservoirs, fluid change in the trans. Ask me how I know.
If your MT-82 is having the grinding and clutch dropping to the floor, change your pressure plate before you kill your trans. I figured it out in my Boss. Tried all the band-aids first, its an inherent flaw in the pressure plate. (At high RPMs)It pushes back on the throw-out bearing, fluid evacuates the TO bearing, then the helper spring drops the pedal to the floor. Changed just the P Plate in my Boss at 1000 miles, no problems any more, any time, any temperature..
I went with an Exedy Mach 700, I should say I changed the disc too and also installed the light chrome moly flywheel, but I'm sure it was the P plate. After about 2 to 3- 1/4 passes the fluid would overflow from the master reservoir, in combination with the dead clutch pedal, and that's what made me realize what was happening. The Mach 700 is fairly grabby, but it shifts fantastic. If you are going to drive on the street mainly, I would not go above the Mach 500. The TO bearing that comes in the kit is identical to the stock Ford TO bearing, but I did not install it. When you change everything there is no port to bleed the system, so you have to pump the clutch about 200 times to get the air out. The MT-82 with this change is one of the best feeling trans you will ever experience, even with a stock shifter.

Bolt pattern is the same.

3160 requires a 31 spline clutch disc which you would Special order from McLeod

Clutch line is the same.

Main differences would be the mount and driveshaft length. Based on what I've seen in the tunnel there are slots to adjust where the mount goes. Shouldn't take much work.
