How do you flub a 130mph+ 4th gear run and down shift into lil ol' 3rd gear!?!?!Honestly sounded like a Brain fart to me by the guy. A very expensive brain fart.
Seen it happen before. Newbie braking for a turn and hurry's the downshift or short shifting to 5th and doesn't apply enough pressure to get into the right gate. Either way it hurts. :( Porsche on the 997 GT3 cars designed the clutch to self destruct in that scenario saving the motor and transmission. How do you flub a 130mph+ 4th gear run and down shift into lil ol' 3rd gear!?!?!
The engine must have made a scream heard around the world!!!!
Why would they replace the car for operator error???Checked the plate and 100% sure the black one on the photo with Texas plate is a 2017 and judged by the seats it has the convenience package. The question is how did it catch on fire and will Ford replace him a new R too?
Cause "TRACK READY" duh I didn't see anywhere in the manual not to down shift at that speed how would he know? Why would they replace the car for operator error???
BahahahahahahahahahahA!!!Cause "TRACK READY" duh I didn't see anywhere in the manual not to down shift at that speed how would he know?
Oh, I thought it's a different car since the original post said "Another one" up in smoke. My bad lolWhy would they replace the car for operator error???
There was absolutely no reason to make a shift where he did on that track. You go from 4th to 3rd before entering turn 2 on this car. And no reason to go into 5th down the straight. By the time you get to that point you are setting up for turn 1 and just go across the apron at full speed (doing about 142~144, R setup) then brake hard, wide turn, gas gas gas, then straight line brake and downshift before turning at 2.Texas World Speedway this past weekend. Driver downshifted going from 4th to 3rd and transmission exploded. Made it to turn one corner worker where the fire extinguished. Coming off turn one at 130 mph, should have stayed in 4th.
Redline in 5th got me to 170. I didn't use 6th simply because it isn't a pulling gear, however, out of curiosity, I should have tried it.Here's what I'm calculating for speed in gears @ 8200 RPM:
GT350 with 305-35-19 rear tires:
1st: 55
2nd: 80
3rd: 111
4th: 144
5th: 179
6th: 285
GT350R with 315-30-19 rear tires:
1st: 53
2nd: 77
3rd: 107
4th: 139
5th: 173
6th: 275
I was there this past weekend. Didn't see this live, but heard the scuttlebutt after the fact. There was absolutely no reason to make a shift where he did on that track. Maybe! Either way you would have to really force it into gear because at that speed there is no way in hell it would have just dropped in. That moment of resistance is when the driver should have realized he was trying the wrong gear and should have applied a heavy dose of brakes then downshift. Or just ride the turn in 4th.I was there this past weekend. Didn't see this live, but heard the scuttlebutt after the fact.
I always shift from 4th to 5th on the front straight, normally just before the start/finish line as I'm hitting the limits of 4th gear. Then scream in 5th gear until the turn in point. Downshift to 4th after coming off the banking.
Have to be very deliberate going from 4th to 5th to not catch 3rd by accident. I have nearly done that a few times and feather the clutch a bit to make sure its 5th and not 3rd cause it gets real exciting if you catch 3rd by mistake.
He left the track before we could talk to him, but maybe he caught 3rd gear by accident....
