We should feel honored that C&D referenced the horsepower to weight ratio of the GT350 when doing an article on the new Cayman GT4. They did however call us "Meatheads":

But the GT4 bends that world to its will, its Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s clinging to the road like an alligator to its prey in a death roll. Increasingly, the industry is producing cars that can't be fully exploited on public roads—cars that need a racetrack. We'd set that threshold at about 500 horsepower, not because it's all about acceleration, but because cars with limits that high tend to have similar outputs. But the GT4 made us reconsider that scale. It's not just power. It's the ratio of weight to power, and each of this Cayman's 414 horses is responsible for just 7.6 pounds. For reference, a 526-hp Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 has 7.3 pounds per horsepower.

But the meathead Mustang can't even keep up with this svelte GT4 in a straight line. The Cayman hits 60 in 3.7 seconds, shortly after the shift into second gear. And whereas 11-second quarter-miles were once solely the domain of the all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo, this rear-driver trips the lights in 11.9 at 120 mph. Its handling limits are even less street-friendly, as a 1.10-g skidpad performance equates to doubling or even tripling recommended speeds on freeway cloverleafs. A 148-foot stop from 70 mph corresponds to thoracic bruising and significant next-day neck pain.

I just find it amazing that our humble little Mustang is compared with an "entry level" SuperCar. We used to be based off the Ford Falcon platform............ I think we've progressed a bit!

When our cars are compared to vehicles of this stature and pedigree, we've arrived!

I am seriously considering getting a GT4.... I will however NOT sell the Shelby. Nothing will replace the exhaust note of the GT350.............. NOTHING!

0-60ml/h in 3.7s is inaccurate in the article. Porsche listed 0-60 in 4.2s on they website. And how about starting $100200.00. If you go with options, which people who buy Porsche usually do, the price will easy increase by $20K.

I don't think it is inaccurate Len... Porsche always seems to publish lower values from my research.

Modestly appointed with similar features to a loaded GT350 with a carbon fiber dash, the Porsche will run about $112K. A GT350 will run with it for basically half the price, I'm happy with my choice.

In Backfires (reader mail) of the same issue there is another GT350 mention:
“Gail ranted and raved about how wonderful the naturally aspirated flat-six sounds. At $118,600 retail, good for it. My 2019 Shelby GT350, at $65,116 out the dealer’s door, is the best-sounding naturally aspirated engine. Hey, Gail, look it up.”

Just because we praise the sound of one engine doesn’t diminish the sound of another. There are plenty of orgasms to go around -Ed.

I wouldn’t say they compared the GT350 to the GT4. It was a random power to weight ratio. I love the GT4 though!!

Just don’t hit a curb on the track in the GT4 or you might just crack a shock tower that’s made of casted metal, not stamped.

Do I have to mention that the GT350 is the soul of American ingenuity and opportunity? A FPC...
Front engine...
Can carry 4 people...
Mod it up and still under price of a GT4...
More availability...
Less wait for parts...
More availability of parts...
But most of all, you can still hang with the rednecks and track gang and still command respect at both.:rockon::rockon:

My track buddy recently picked up a gt4, super fun to ride in and very similar lap times to our cars... one of my first comments to him after some hotlaps was that the power to weight must be nearly identical because we were neck and neck down the straights.

Yeah its awesome when folks are almost forced to compare a car 2x the base cost with the GT350, because nothing else out there can compare...

Similar lap times and performance, one cost 65k and one cost 120k plus. Is the GT350 overachieving or is the GT4 underachieving.

I don’t know about the new GT4, but with the previous gen, the GT350R is quicker around most tracks, some by seconds on fastestlaps.com.

Seen at least two of these happen here in Atlanta and was the deciding factor in NOT trying to purchase a used one.

I mean the GT350 has been compared to much more expensive cars since it arrived 5 years ago, you can look up almost any year's magazines head to heads and it comes out at or near the top. I mean forget the GT4, the GT350 came in second only to the new 911 in the last driver's car of the year roundup, and is compared directly here as a close call https://www.motortrend.com/cars/por...-porsche-911-carrera-s-sports-car-comparison/. This is a 5 YEAR OLD Ford Mustang. The ONLY thing faster than it still in its price range is the ZL1 1LE, which is a much newer car.

I dunno, obviously I'm biased but the fact that you can get 100k+ mid engine performance combined with a once in a lifetime american V8 motor is something special that can't be replaced at almost any price. If you can afford both go for it, but I don't think I would part with my R in a straight trade for anything under 200k even. You'd have to be talking Performante or Ford GT, that type of stuff. Maybe I'm crazy. But for me there's a very high bar for what makes a non-DD car special enough for me to drop real money on, it goes much deeper than any numbers or laptimes.
