Hey,

Dealership has a used 2019 gt350 with only 2k miles. We negotiated a reasonable price and I thought the value for my trade-in was fair. They were going to drive 3 hours to do the deal at my house.

Before leaving, the sales guy calls me up and says "Hey I'm about to leave but I just wanted to give an update on the tires. They will need to be replaced fairly soon. I just don't want you to be surprised."

I know the car has performance tires, but needing to be replaced after 2k miles just seems a bit extreme and abused. I'm buying the car sight unseen so I'm a little extra cautious.

Does that sound right after 2k miles? Would you walk away? I told them that I need to think about it.

Thanks

Sounds like it was bought, run on a track and traded.

I would try to negotiate a new set of tires, and the sale contingent on your inspection.

I ran a set of OEM GT350 wheels and tires and had to replace the fronts after only about 5,000 miles due to the inner edges being worn down to the cords

My friend , I would be cautious. Even if It was rode hard the dealer should replaced the tires. It should only be the rears that have that much wear after 2k. Even Carmax won’t sell you a used car with worn tires. It’s a quality thing. Plus its dangerous.

My 19 GT came with Michelin Cup2 tires brand new and the dealer let me know that the car would tramline before I chose that model, but I planned on replacing tires anyway.

You dealer did the right thing by telling you but they need to eat the cost of the new tires. I am sure if they took the car in on trade they made at least 2 k to 4 k. Two tires should only be about $700 retail or $500 their cost wholesale.

Fight them on it and enjoy your ride!

Get pics and post them here. If they are Cup2s, people frequently think they are well used due to their very shallow tread depth.

I would be concerned. I bought my 2016 with 5,600 miles with the stock tires. Fast Forward to today I'm just over 13K with the same tires. Sounds like yours has been ridden hard and put up. I would definitely push to get the rubber on the car before you even consider buying.

Buyer beware!!!! :)

BTW mine was a daily driver before NCOVID19. Currently I take i tout 1 time a weed or 2.

Absolutey could be the case. I swapped my brand new cup2 at 400 miles and the tire jockey asked me if I wanted to toss them because they were low on tread I looked him straight in the eye and told him I would sell them to him for $1100 dollars (they were practically new)..to the untrained eye they could look to be worn.

I wound up selling on this forum for $1000....:giggle:

Two thoughts:
1. The salesman has no idea that the tread depth is only 5.5/32” of tread when new, and thought these were worn out compared to the last Fusion he sold.
2. The original owner used the car quite hard.

I managed 11,000 miles out of my Cup 2 OEM tires... only one aggressive Mountain Drive for about 3 hours.

I would inspect them myself in person before worrying.

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
Beyond the possibility that they may indeed not understand the OEM tire specs, if they really are trashed I think the law states a used car cannot be sold with tires worn past a certain depth.

Why are you buying the car sight unseen?
The car could be just fine but it is unusual to buy a car without looking at it.
Hope it works out okay.
