So little is known about the flat crank 5.2 VOODOO engine. Is it possible that it will be a fuel hog and be subject to the gas guzzler tax? What do you think?

The 2013 / 2014 GT500 with the monster motors weren't hit with gas guzzler tax. i doubt these will be

Normally aspirated high rpm engines are very thirsty. Wouldn't surprise me if it had a gas guzzler tax.

That maybe true but it is my understanding that the government fuel milage test never actually revs the motor high enough to matter. I was told it was like your 90 year old grandmother driving the car, one reason people are often disappointed that their cars don't do as well as the rating.

At 2k RPMs this puppy should sip, not gulp.

Open it up....you'll likely need to tow a spare tank.

Yeah - thankfully the tests used for EPA ratings are totally different than those used for determining whether or not a vehicle is subject to the gas guzzler tax...

How are they geared? If to take advantage of the high rpm capability the engine, I don't think any conclusions can be made yet.

Ford took alot of pride with the GT500s not being subject to the guzzler tax, even highlighted it in their press releases... i doubt they would go backward. I strongly doubt it will have a guzzler tax

That is a very good question and we should definitely figure that into the MSRP. Who knows with TiVCT but I think it will be difficult to avoid.

For high revving engines you normally have very short gearing, ala the E92 M3. My M3 gets worse mileage than most SUVs, its the reason why I bought my FiST. The amount of money I save on fuel alone reimburses me for the lease payment on the Fist. Not to mention going through a set of rear tires every year.

As far as the GT500 not having a gas guzzler tax, that was in the later years. Up until 2012 the car had a GG tax.

The GT350 has a significant torque advantage over the E9X M3, which may allow Ford to go with taller gears, improving economy without affecting performance terribly.

I think one could be optimistic that it won't get the GG Tax, but I also think one shouldn't be surprised if it does. 100 HP more than the M3 with similar FE wouldn't be too bad.

Right now this motor is comparable to the 2013/14 Ferrari California, which is a 4.9 liter FPC that is normally aspirated and has a redline of 9000RPM. That car is subjected to the GG tax.

However, the 2015 model is now a 3.9 Liter twin turbo...with a better EPA and is producing more HP and more torque and is not subjected to the GG tax.

If this is any indication of where Ford can go with this....they can slap a twin turbo on the next release and net higher HP gains and EPA gains to boot. Netting us a more powerful GT350 or GT500 that also is exempt from the GG tax.

Just saying.

I am not necessarily saying the Voodoo motor will have a GG tax, it wouldn't surprise me if it did though. Definitely wouldn't stop me from buying it either, in fact its kind of a bragging right..:D

Well as a comparison the Dodge 6.4 has a GG Tax on the manual at 23 MPG, throw in the 8-speed w\MDS and get 25 MPG with no GG tax. Not sure where the line is crossed though, 23.5 MPG, 24 MPG ?
