The bumper bar. In the past a large plate is welded to the stock bumper bar making it stronger. The bumper bar has a role in making the chassis stiffer by tying the ends of the frame together. Not something you might miss on the street or drag strip but not something you would give up on the track if you don't have too.

It is interesting that they moved it up compared to all the S197 tow hooks which usually go straight through the front of the bumper cover. Maybe they welded it to the top instead of the front but it still looks kinda high to me.
