Hi guys, I have an issue with either the gearbox or the clutch. Here are the symptoms:
  • very often can't engage the second gear and I have to either depress the clutch again to get into second gear or I have to use excessive force to get into the gear.
  • If I drive slow in gears 3,4,5 I can hear a grinding-like noise in the gearbox area
  • It does feel like the clutch slips sometimes a bit when gently accelerating
Other things:
  • Car is still under manufacturers warranty
  • Mike from Modurstang confirmed that something is not ok
  • Hartwell Ford (Oxford) had the car in twice and second time for a whole GOD DAMN week and said all is ok and this is normal for this car.
  • Went for a test drive together with head of service of Hartwell Ford (Oxford) and he immediately confirmed that that there's a bearing issue, but after I left the car with them for a whole week, nothing was done to it and they just said - no fault found, go away. SO FRUSTRATING!
What should I do to get it sorted? Are there any gearbox/clutch specialists in Oxfordshire who could help me identify the issue, so I could return the car to the dealer with a written report and get it fixed while under warranty? Got 2 months of warranty left.

Any ideas welcome!!!

2017-reg car with 30K miles. Got the car 3000 miles ago with the symptoms already there.

Thank you!
Simon

The dealer really should be investigating this seriously. Sounds like they need to pull the box off and inspect. Is there another Ford dealer you could try?

I do have another one nearby. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Yeah, dealer isn't interested.
Ford screws dealers on the chargeable labour rates for warranty work.
So some dealers fob-off customers at the risk of coming to Ford's attention & possibly incurring Ford UK's ire.

Find a better dealership.

The important thing is to register your concern before the warranty expires. They'd have a hard job wriggling out of responsibility if your gearbox drops out two months after warranty then.

Go to Hendy Performance. Speak to Kevin on the phone. They have a master tech who can make the call to replace the gearbox without prior approval from Ford if he feels its fudged.

Stop wasting your time with others.

It maybe the thrust bearing, lots of cars seem to have this issue, both of the S550s I've had did it.

Could take it down to Peter Stirland of Hungerford, small independent Ford dealer. Their Mustang tech Paul knows what he’s doing and they’ll bat for you against Ford.

Went for a test drive with Paul. What a nice person. Immediately noticed issues and booked in for repairs. Very disappointed with Hartwell Ford Kidlington attitude. Not going to be their customer anymore.

Paul is my hero, what a legend. Glad to hear someone else disappointed with Hartwell Kidlington - I was equally disappointed with them (back when I had the Ecoboost).

They can't be that busy they just don't want to do it , I had a fiat doblo van , they wanted ÂŁÂŁstupid to service it so I took it elsewhere , the suspension started clonking so I took it to fiat under warranty expecting an argument but they just fixed it , didn't even ask to see the service book or any invoices to see where I'd had it done , I assumed because all work for the workshop pays
