I wonder is he able to get any more utility out of 6th with the change or is it still so tall that top of 5th is max speed.
It won't make a difference for 6th gear with the power available to attain the fastest speed, you would still be about 5500 RPM at 170 MPH with the 4.11 gear. 5th gear would still be your highest speed gear.
Now for us autocross guys, this would be a help as you really don't get out of 2nd gear on an autocross course and the 4.11 gear would make better use of the available power at those track speeds.
For top speed, the fact that it takes 8x the horsepower to go twice as fast under the same conditions, you are still limited by the frontal area resistance and the weight of the car with the available power for maximum speed.

Thanks for the awesome write up and review. Disappointed to hear there’s no 4.30 in the works because I believe that would be the perfect gear for the street in this car. I’m less inclined to do all that work just for the 4.11, but maybe it’s worth it after all.

From 2 years ago:
(Top Speed Info)

3.73 Rear End:
5th = 180 (top speed is RPM limited @ top of 5th)
6th = 286 mph! (obviously not achievable, and is actually slower than 5th)

4.11 Rear End:
5th = 163 (top speed is RPM limited @ top of 5th)
6th = 260 (obviously not achievable, still probably slower than 5th)
Great job, I bet the car feels a lot better in 6th on the fwy. My biggest and really only complaint about the car is not the the final drive gearing, but the 5-6th gear gap. The car's overall gearing is pretty much perfect in the sense that 5th peaks at about top speed at redline. This is good!

But who the hell need an overdrive good for 280mph, this is just off the charts ridiculous. The 5-6 change is almost 40% it should be a 25-30% change at most. Your rear end swap fixes 6th gear from being too tall. A lower 6th gear would be my preference.

Good to hear there is a 4:11 gear available . I would think it would be best to have a whole complete spare rear end with a 4:11 for track use. Is ZOOM gear still in business ? ZOOM used make gears others were afraid to make.

Yukon Gear makes a 4.56 gear set for the Ford Super 8.8. Seems to me that would be the set that would best take advantage of the GT350’s 8,250 RPM redline in the higher gears.

3.73 to 4.11 will be a huge mechanical advantage, especially in a car that does not have a lot of low down torque. You will definitely tell the difference. Perfect for a high revving car like the gt350 where you can really wind the gears out yet give you the torque you need when slowing down for the curves and accelerating again.

Eons ago, a friend of mine ran a stout, single-carb, tunnel-rammed 289 that would spin 9,000 RPM in a '68 Mustang with a 4-speed. He had a 9" chunk set up with 5.83s for the 1/8 mile. Man, that thing was fun on the street.

Don't fear the gear. :headbang:

I also have to say I'm wow'd by the fact the speedometer automatically adjusted to the new gearing!

Second is 73 so you can almost hit redline and not get a ticket!!! I suspect it might feel like a bigger difference than it is on paper.

I've been exchanging emails with Gus at Yukon, says they need 100 orders to tool up and produce 4.30s...

Reviving an old thread here but I’m trying to figure out how to take the nut off the back of the pinion flange any tips? The nut seems to be bent in the gaps
