Has anyone run into warranty issues while using FORScan? I'm planning to install a 3:55 diff, but since I run a 6r80 I would have to change some values for the new gear ratio. I've been avoiding tuning my car because I bought an extended warranty, would changing the gear ratio with FORScan basically be the same as tuning my car to a dealer, in that they could potentially void any repairs to my engine, transmission, etc.

As per a TSB any changes to "as built" data from factory parameters is grounds for them to void the warranty on that module. It's not considered the same as tuning, but its technically an out for them should anything electric fail. Is it likely they will ever notice, or that said module will fail to begin with? Nope.

I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Thank's. I know tunes are pretty obvious when they check your car, I wasn't sure if small changes in FORScan were the same way.

FORScan can't change anything on the ECU, so your powertrain warranty will remain intact. As mentioned, the only issue could be if you mess up a module, by messing with FORScan without knowing what you're doing. But it's rare for that to happen. Typically, the worst case scenario is to load back the original 'as-build' data, and problem solved. That's why it's a good idea to always back up a module you plan to modify first. As an alternative, you could download the as-built data for your vehicle from a motorcraft site, but that is a single file with all data. I believe the newest FORScan version allows you to load that file, but it'd probably would wipe out all other changes done. Not a big deal if you need to restore everything to factory settings. I also have an excel file with the changes I made, in case I need to make them again (they're not that many).

The newest file has a prebuilt button, it loads all the stuff "as built" for you. its accurate, I went through all my modules and tested it.

Nice! But can FORScan just load the file for one module, or it does all modules at once, since the file includes all modules? Thx.

you can do individual modules.

in fact, thats how you do it. you click on the module, and you change what you want, or software for that module. you don't do multiple modules at once.

I highly recommend buying the official forscan cable. 49 on amazon if I recall I paid

Thank's for the info. I ended up buying a 3:55 diff. after reading the replies. My friends going to make the changes for me to accommodate the change in gears and I guess I should probably change my wheel size while I'm at it since I have aftermarket wheels now. From what I read it's only a few numbers that need changed, I won't be messing with anything else.

I would recommend the following while you are in there.

Disable factory EQ in ACM. (pretty positive ACM)

move all chimes/sounds to dash in IPC (this makes it so when you are reversing/alerts etc.. doesn't blare through ALL the speakers full blast) only the alerts/chimes go through gauge cluster speaker. so much better imo.

disable seat belt chimes (I know.. I know..)

turn signal tap, instead of 3 blinks, I made mine 5. much more convenient.

disable honk on exit of vehicle

disable honk when double tap lock

disable the start up chimes when you open door to turn car on "Ching Ching Ching Ching"

idk. there's other stuff. look through the guide, but take 2 minutes to do everything, just write down al the values before you open it up, so you have them on hand to change instantly. Those are the things that come off top of my head that imo, are worth changing.

Haha, nice I didn't realize all of that could be changed in there. I really hate how my car honks when I exit the vehicle with the key still in my pocket. Dumb question, but what's factory EQ?

equalizer. the music will become way cleaner, and sound way better, and you'll have more bass. they basically put limiters on it, to reduce vibrations in the car, and mainly protect speakers I guess, ive been rocking mine for 2 years, havnt blown a speaker. if I did, id simply toss a new one if ever happened, not big deal. I don't think they will blow. but to be fair, I don't listen to my volume over like 25-26 its deafening.

if you have a base car, I don't know if it does anything, but premium 9/12 speaker systems (amped) they have the equalizer, it really gimps the sound.

all you do is literally change 1 code in acm. this is it. to reset it, you just put whatever code that was there before the change.

in the ACM module you change this code. 727-01-02 xXxx xx 0=EQ off.

that means the 2nd digit in your line of code, make 0 and it'll be turned off. if your car has a 1 2 3 4 5 etc, if you want to go back, just go back, change that xXxx xx, the big X to the previous # or just hit "as built" and the forscan will simply turn everything back to stock for you. its a newer feature, its pretty sweet.

if you have stock subwoofer, it'll make it play bass better, it won't roll off, and if you ever get an aftermarket subwoofer, you need to do this, for the amplifier anyway. but try it, don't like it? revert it. takes 1 minute

Awesome, Thanks. I have the 12 speaker system with subwoofer in the trunk. I'm clueless when it comes to sound systems and audio settings but I'll give it a try when I get around to throwing in the diff. The 12 speaker system is nice to have since my Roush/X-pipe can get pretty loud.

Where would one find said guide? And what is the 'official' Forscan cable?

you know, its pretty simple, but the guides all got removed or something, there used to be a master code sheet, seems someone deleted it, people kept going in there and deleting the codes being assholes. not sure why, but its gone now.

trust me, worth its weight in gold. - you need a windows laptop too. cheaper variants are slow, have toggles, can mess things up from dropped packets. this ones the real deal. quick instant, no dropped packets, safe. I even updated all my modules etc firmware and flashed my cars abs modules etc a few times, no hiccups.

but- don't dick with that stuff. just stick with changing the code lines, all reversible, nothing to worry about. just double check your lines to make sure you didn't fat finger anything in the wrong line. (you can just hit reset) as built, but still.

If you guys find the forscan thread, post the things you want, and im sure other members have them written down, the codes/lines. I did it awhile back because I lost some of my codes and I needed some.

trust me though, the disable EQ is dope. whole new life to the system.-- and id recommend disconnecting the center speaker in the car one day if you really wanted better sound, I just used a finger nail clipper, and snipped one wire under my kick panel, you don't even remove anything, you can reach it right from under driver area, just need a light, and bend down in there. snip. off, and if you ever wanted it back on, just reconnect the wire with a little crimp or whatever.
