Can’t wait to see the movie. I’ve always been a fan of the GT 40s & Cobras. I’m dating myself but I took the B&W pictures at the 65 Le Mans race. What a photo op. Wish I’d had a better camera. I was all of 17 & just excited to be there. Daytona Coupe pic is the car that raced & finished 8th at the 65 Le Mans. Car is located at the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia. Great collection of race cars and a must see if you’re a car nut & in Philly.

Our Imax typically has about 20 people there but it was crowded for this movie, maybe 30 people. ;) You just gotta' see it in Imax!
"He said you were fat, sir.". :) Oh, and we went in a 50th anniversary convertible!

From the Ford screening for Mustang and Shelby owners at Fox last night - all the brass was there

As a former Mach1 owner I am :sunglasses: on this cheese by Ford. Hopefully they will drop the Mustang connection once the vehicle proves itself. I am glad they reversed the attempt to name it Mach1. But Mach-E made my brain go to Mach-E-Otto..... which is another flavor of Mustang.

Meanwhile, hoping to catch the flick on vacation.

Totally no intention of "picking the movie apart" or anything like that, but what were some of the bigger Hollywood liberties taken? Clearly there are several aspects and events that are accurate (or accurate enough to tell the main story).

One that they could have easily gotten right was that it was raining at the finish of LeMans, as seen in the historic three Ford GT photo.

I recommend watching "The 24 Hour War" for the more accurate account. It was just added to NetFlix this past weekend. The biggest liberty taken in the Ford v. Ferrari movie was the compression of time. The movie effectively compresses the 1964 and 1965 GT40 campaigns into a single year, suggesting that the 1965 24 Hours of LeMans was the GT40's first entry into that race.

I saw it on opening weekend. Took the Shelby of course! :like:

If any of you are watch fans, you might be interested to know that Damon's Carroll Shelby is wearing a Heuer Carrera and Bale's Ken Miles is wearing a Heuer Autavia.

There is a true historical connection between Shelby and the Heuer Carrera.

Saw it in IMAX a couple days ago. Great movie. I was pleased that the movie focused a lot on the contributions of Ken Mills to the program. He always seemed to get marginalized in books and such. He was an exceptional technician and engineer as well as a balls to the wall driver. You seldom see that in a driver, and his insights on what needed strengthening or changing made the difference!

It's a long movie as is - so it's hard to compress the full story in a time frame that people would actually sit and watch beyond car enthusiasts.
If you haven't... read the book "Go Like Hell". It was published 8 or 9 years ago.

It doesn't touch on the Holman Moody GT40 team being added (basically as competition to spur on the Shelby team) much at all.

It touches a bit on the internal politics at Ford at the time. If you really want to know how fucked up the U.S. Auto industry was from the 50's on - read "The Reckoning" by David Halberstam. It's a long read but it will shine a lot of light on why many major auto manufacturers are so disconnected from the customers who end up buying their cars.

Someone else mentioned this earlier but last nite I watched the 24 Hour War on Netflix. Great documentary with lots of details on the actual events. Spoiler alert the movie is not 100% accurate

Saw the movie today and give it a big thumbs up. Actors were surprising good in their roles - Damon did very well and Bale was excellent as Ken Miles. Like any Hollywood undertaking it will not be perfect but it's very, very good. Only slightly annoying thing to me was all the glimpses of Ken Miles banging gears up and down at high speeds. Those 427 cars only had a 4-speed transaxle - they only had one gear option when getting somewhere over 160 - 170 MPH or so depending on revs - 4th.
