I believe the merit of the lawsuit is in the fact that it is being called the "Mustang GTT" - this effectively implies a new model that is using a trademarked name (Mustang part) conceivably without required authorization from FoMoCo. FoMoCo must pay Shelby for the rights to use its name (technically... although who knows what agreement they have, but there's an agreement). Roush has to pay rights, I'm sure as well.

Additionally, the design is an admitted blend of two vehicles. It was specifically depicted as a blend, not "inspired by" but "a purposeful blend". A good lawyer can make something of that, I'm sure. Harvey Spector could.

I could be wrong... I really don't feel like Ford needs to be picking this legal fight and instead devoting resources to ensuring quality product.

But if they're throwing a fit, they may be doing so because the GTT reflects greatly what their refresh or future-future Mustang is intended to look like. They may have perceived a threat to creative rights.

I'm sure its all about using the Mustang name. I suppose if they were selling a kit or built copies and calling it that, it would be an issue. I can't imagine just building a show car and calling it a Mustang GTT would be a problem.

As far as the styling, I was looking at it on my computer and a poster of the GT on my wall, and they are plenty different enough to not be a copy. Lots of cues but nothing lifted directly. They are using a Mustang as a platform, of course its going to look like a Mustang.

I they sell their GTT stuff, it would be called something like the GTT Kit for Mustangs. Selling built/modified Mustangs they would probably have to call it something like a Mustang "Tuned by 0 to Sixty" or Mustang built to GTT specs. Maybe they would have to license the Mustang trademark to go that direction, I'm not a lawyer.

Misleading headline. Ford didn't specifically said they were unhappy or will sue. Their legal teams are "investigating" into the matter.

Sounds like they're just butt hurt. If they can sue for this why don't they sue every cobra kit car manufacturer out there? They own the cobra still.

Carrol Shelby tried that and succeeded against pretty much everybody except Factory Five.

There are parts of the car I like and parts I hate.

Ford would be wise to not make themselves look like fools.

My guess....it likely has similar styling elements that Ford has planned for the upcoming refresh or maybe even the S650.

Well that settles that, it was all about the GTT logo and how some writers referred to it as a Mustang GTT.
Looks like that ought to clear things up, now who wants one? :lol:
