I agree it's a non issue. Stock airbox will get hot too, it just takes longer. The higher level of airflow with the gt350 intake seems to keep the heads cooler though.

I can't believe how much faster my car feels with this tune. Did you ever run straight 91, or did you always blend in some E?

Look at my liner on how firmly the intake seals against the hoodliner.

Can you actually change the intake on the kit to say a pmas (no tune one) and still run the Ford performance tune without issue? I know its kinds silly to pay for another intake since the kit came with one,but I was just curious.

As long as it has the same tube dimensions as the gt350 intake, it should work. You can even modify the stock intake to make that work, someone did that earlier in this thread. It involves cutting it up though.

Many aftermarket intakes for the regular GT neck down for the 82mm throttle body. You need one that has the full 87mm opening for a gt350/mach1/Bullitt.

But honestly most aftermarket intakes are similar to the gt350 one in this kit. Thinner plastic to make room for a bigger cone filter, which means higher IAT. There may be some exceptions out there though.

I don't think so, at least I wouldn't try it, the drivability would be off. See ice445's post.

Any benefits to or anyone ever use boostane with their kit?

Yes there's some benefit, albeit limited. Both the factory and FP tunes use a rather aggressive timing curve both up and down, so by introducing higher octane fueling you allow the PCM to continually add timing and see higher values than on say 93 octane.

How much extra timing and how that translates to power is debatable, but it's something. IMO boostane is more of a safety feature allowing for better knock control under extreme conditions rather than making more power especially NA and with the FP tune.

I would limit the Boostane use. I run 2 gallons of VP101 Unleaded race fuel along with 2.0 gallons of E85 and this gets me to about 94.5 octane and my car runs great. I don't use Boostane but I will run VP Racing unleaded Octanium (pretty much the same thing) and it coats your plugs and oxygen sensors with an orange tint and can affect them. So when I do use it it's only 4 oz per tankful which that alone almost gets me to 93 octane plus the added bonus of 2.0 gallons of E85 makes the fuel an E19. The E85 here in Cali is true E85, and we only get 91 octane.

I used a 4oz boostane shot once. Doesn't do much to the stock tune, but does make the FP tune feel a bit meatier compared to straight 91. But as above, you really don't want to use it regularly since MMT (the primary octane improving ingredient) leaves manganese residue throughout the engine. The main reason to use it is either A: you're going to beat the piss out of the car on track and don't have race fuel available, or B: you're stuck in nowhere with only low grade gas available.

I have good 93 here in FL. I wouldn't want the orange residue and the like messin with things. Doesn't really sound like it's worth the hassle for the potential if any gain

Today on a 100 degree day, sitting at a light for only two cycles, my IAT got over 140F. We're talking a 35 degree increase in under two minutes. On top of that, when I went to take off, the car was running absolutely terrible like it was in limp mode. Maybe I could play with it to get it to seal better, but I'm doubtful. The stock box is MILES better for me. Sure, you can get to 140, but it takes 20+ minutes of sitting in a drive through, not two. In the same stoplight circumstance, the stock box might have gotten to 115, and that's being generous.

I'm annoyed. But going back to stock sucks :(

ice445... that's too bad i know my car will get 140 or so at the light but mine doesn't seal against the hood i have a Gt500 one and when I'm moving i only go up 5 or 6 degrees above out side temperature but i think it's has a lot better throttle response

Yeah, when you're moving it's great. But as soon as you stop, it climbs QUICK. I didn't mind until the car started running absolutely horrible. 93 would probably make it better, but I don't have access to that sadly. It's a shame because the car runs way better pretty much all the time otherwise.

Thats kind of weird...the CAI is the same box used for the Mach1 and the Bullitt. Those cars are tested in those weather conditions. My own car has hit 140deg F and I had no issues.

Technically its a bit different, the Mach 1 and Bullitt airbox is larger because the hood vent on that side is blanked off. But yes, it SHOULD be fine, but it's not lol. I mean it still drove, but you could tell anything resembling performance had left the building.

I suspect though that if you ran straight CA 91 with no race gas or ethanol included, you might see something similar.

I hate being so back and forth on this kit lmao.
