Ok here is another poll question and I think I already know the answer - custom tune. However I would like to keep the factory warranty. Also which custom tune would you recommend? I am getting all my ducks in a row to get my targeted mods done in the first week after I purchase my 2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium Performance Package, Manual, Lighting Blue. ;)
Mind you I will use the car for track & 1/4 mile. Mostly 1/4 mile.

From the graphs i ve seen the gt350 im pulls upto 7250 rpm and then the hp starts to go down. Is there a way to bump the hp upto 7500+ rpms?

This must compensate for the power drop over 7250 - although tis is for a 435Hp 5.0 Coyote not the GT350

Perf Pkg 3: https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9452-M8

  • Includes GT350 cold air intake with 87mm throttle body and GT350 intake manifold M-9424-M52
  • 37hp and 5lbs/ft peak gains over stock
  • 60hp gain at 7500rpm

If your HP peak is at redline your redline probably isn't high enough. It depends on the gearing you have, but you want your upshifts to be at equal torque or as close to it as possible (i.e. if I make 400 ft-lbs at 5500 rpm I want to upshift at the engine speed where I'm back at 400 ft-lbs/5500 rpm for the next gear).

Calling out OKC #1 spot after axle back install.
Stay stock if you want to keep the warranty.

No thats not what i mean. If you search for a gt350 im dyno, on the graph you can see the hp linearly goes up to peak 7250 rpm and then starts to go down. For the stock intake manifold the hp goes down around 6500 rpm. The peak hp for the gt350 im is not at 7500 but 7250 rpm. But by the time it reaches 7500 rpm the stock intake manifold (looking at my dyno my car is lund tuned though is around 350 whp). So a stock car would be probably around 330 340 ish whp at 7500 rpm vs 390 or 400 whp gt350 intake dyno. There is your 60 hp difference.

From the gt350 intake manifold dyno graphs, what im seeing is a dive in hp from 7250 rpm! People are saying the car is still pulling up to even 8000 rpm. I m confused though, how come the car starts to loose power but still keeps pulling? The torque also starts to dive around 7250 rpm!

Just my opinion/food for thought. At $2.2K, the PP3 is almost to the halfway point for a FI/supercharged setup. You could make a similar argument for the PP2 setup, but $700 is not $2.2K and it's much easier to "undo" PP2 than to swap out an intake manifold.

Before I bought the PP2 (haven't received it yet) I had the PP3 in my cart...for a long time. The rationale in my first paragraph is why I didn't go for it. YMMV of course. :)

I'm sure that with the PP3 and a really great custom tune, you could get another 50-60HP out of a stock Coyote motor. But how much will that really great custom tune/dyno'ing set you back? If you're looking at $2.2K for the PP3 and.....$600?? (guessing) for a custom tune job, now you're at the halfway point to a blower which is going to net you 120HP easily right out of the box with a canned tune.

You can get GT350 manifold and addl hardware + instructions for $1,100-1,300 if buy stuff separately and find the best prices. Custom tune add another $500 and call it a day. That's still less than $2 grand. Supercharger plus supporting mods will be easily $7K-$10K. Big difference.

JDM sells a complete kit with TB and CAI + instructions for $1,500ish. Add custom tune and you're in it for $2K or less. An extra 60 hp up top could make a significant difference in the car. To be able to rev an additional 1,000-1,500 RPMs all the while HP is rising - that's a significant change. Not supercharged levels but Id imagine a GT350 manifold would make this a completely different car. Seems well worth it to me.

With a custom tune you can dial in drivability and performance to get the best out of it. If you go Ford PP3, you are stuck with what they give you.

I went around and around on this, but I think next year I'll just go the custom tune route and call it a day. I'll be well over 20k miles into the car at that point, so warranty considerations won't be high on my list. I'll probably go with Livernois tune.

Also, not sure if they've been ironed out yet, but a lot of people have been complaining about poor drivability on custom tunes when running the GT350 throttle body. I can't imagine you would have the same issue with fords PP3.
