Hey Folks,

Happy New Year. Apologies since i'm a rookie so will try to provide as much info as possible, I've never posted on these forums nor did any car meetups even though i'd love to.

Proud owner of a V8 Mustang back when I purchased it from the dealership back in 2021. GT Fastback, manual, V8 5L Coupe.
The car has never given me any issues aside from the battery that had to be replaced once (I have a dashcam which drains the vehicle up to a certain point with a parking mode on plus the nature of my job means I have to travel 2 or 3 months out of the country so no driving what so ever).

One question I had was if it's ok to replace a battery with something on Halfords that I've found. I trust my local garage in teddington but since the car is out of the warranty now I thought this might be quicker/nicer as the fellas are busy in the garage.
Is it generally ok to replace parts with a non ford ''approved'' standard? It is a muscle car so not so sure about compatbility. I've read on the forums that the below battery was quite good.
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/b...-12v-car-battery-5-year-guarantee-230206.html

Would anyone know any good battery chargers with a maintenance mode on so I can leave the car with a peace of mind for a month or two (it's in a safe locked garage)? I think some battery chargers come with a mode that will stop charging the battery once it's full to prevent any long term damage on the battery life.

And finally, does anyone recommend any external battery devices that they've used to put the tracker/dashcam on an external power source rather than being hooked up directly on the battery?

Apologies again if it's too much/too little info but happy to provide more if necessary. Thanks again.

I wouldn’t be letting Halfords anywhere near my car, they’re not trained mechanics, merely operatives, not that you should need to be a trained mechanic to fit a battery but it’s clearly beyond them. The Mustang requires a slightly lower profile battery than the norm to fit under the cover, I’m sure someone will post the exact specification.

Ouch I see, well thank god I posted this before i went to them.
I saw this old post where there was a discussion around the battery fitting in, some of the folks had issues with it. But by the looks of it as long as it's 175mm tall it might work (looking at the battery height it seems right).

What type of trickle chargers would you folks recommend?

I have replaced the main battery on my GT.
I bought a Yuasa battery from Halfords, however, at that time, the Halfords system recommended a battery that would not fit the car.
Instead, I noted the physical dimensons of the original battery, found a match and got as close as I could to the voltage, amps, etc.

If I were to garage the car for a few months, I'd simply disconnect the battey, the -ve or both terminals.

Look up ‘CTEK’ for your battery charger / maintainer :like:

Noted, I'm gonna stick with my local ford repair folks who have always been there for me. thanks for the info

I have used Accumate chargers before with years of use.

One thing you can do (and I did for my S550) is to attach a trickle charger lead with a weatherproof plug that pokes out from under the battery cover at the scuttle end so is available near the wipers so that you can plug it in without lifting the bonnet. It is well tucked down under the rear edge of the bonnet so cannot be seen but is easy to access. It must be fused (which the ones supplied by Accumate are) and you can fix it to the battery terminals using the small bolts that stick up from the Ford connectors (you just need to source some nuts)
