When Gm acquired Hughes Aircraft company, (1985), it changed what a car company could do. Officially starting with OnStar and its Hughes satellite technology. Trust me they have been doing this sence the late 80's . I remember bolting up a modified f18 H.U.D. system on a 1988 caddy and driving it around the SoCal area. That later became all our simplified HUD systems in cars today. I evemn remember a group of engineers laying cable alone the 5 freeway from South Camp Pendleton to San Onofre and later in the year conducting hands free driving testing. GM buying Hughes Aircraft was indeed a game changer.

Any car with a shark fin antenna phones home.
Not necessarily. Although the shark fin antenna is a dead giveaway for 4G connectivity, some earlier models have placed the cellular antennas in other locations. One of those locations is in both the left and right rear bumper area behind each rear wheel. There is usually an auxillary antenna located on the parcel shelf by the rear view window.

I believe 2019 and up have TCU 4G connectivity via the ATT mobile network.

I need to replace my 2014 F150, not a member of any F150 forums to ask there, how old do I have to go to not be spied on? 2018?

For mustangs, it was 2019. I think our 2018 leased escape had all the data uplink with ford pass. I think a good rule of thumb is that if it has ford pass, it is beaming data.

2020 first builds didn't have shark fin antennas. Their data was transmitted via other antennas located elsewhere in the car (rear quarter panels, parcel shelf, etc).

A shark fin antenna isn't always an indicator.

Not wanting my driving habits being sent DIRECTLY to my insurance company does not make me a tin foil hat wearer.

Not to mention the other possible issues.

I dont think he even read the thread in the link. I think it was just a cat lover's driveby comment.

I try not to read anything.. thatā€™s what YouTube is for. But, just for you, I did read it and still thought a proper response was a tin hat wearing cat.

since I willingly agree to terms with apple, google, and all other services/apps, etcā€¦ I am not really concerned with yet another company collecting data.

unless people are willing to stop using cell phones, the internet, watching oled tvā€™s, using credit/debit cards, and anything else in the connected world, our data will continue to be collected and used to our dislike.

we all have the right/option to write a manifesto and go live in a cabin in the woods.

p.s. Dogs are way better than cats but google search algorithms believe people find cats more appealing than dogs (hence the cat pic).

Personal experience, my 2018 refuses to let apps function on Sync unless I authorize Ford to send data to home base using my cellphone.

Is there any other means you can transmit on the 2018? I'd like to disable it all including collection outside ECU.

fair enough, if you read the info and you don't agree then you are entitled to your opinion. I prefer dogs too.
