We were told in training that Ford collects 'general' data, like average speed, duration, etc. to help engineers see where to concentrate efforts on drivability and options most used. Watch any 'future of the auto industry' programs and the real billions in revenue will be in collecting/selling data, not the profit by selling you a new vehicle.
