unless I'm dreaming mine locks anytime i have the key in pocket and walk away more than15-25 ft . It's always done this , I'm the second owner.

Are you sure what locks is the Door or the Compartment between the seats?

I resolved it installing an aftermarket alarm.

That's definitely NOT a factory option, so you're either hearing the steering column lock (like others alluded), or you have an aftermarket accessory. You can only lock the car from the outside with the remote, or the door handle (if equipped). You can also lock it from the door panel lock switch... but with the door fully open, with the fob sufficiently away from the inside, so it door locks don't reopen.
