That's no lie. We have a local Chevy / GMC / Buick dealer with two lots that are usually packed. One is totally bare today and the other has mostly used cars on it. Across the street is the dealer's Subaru franchise. It's lot looks like it always does - full of cars.

Not here. Wife leased a Nissan Rogue end of June, very little inventory on their lot. Coworker went to buy a Toyota RAV4 in July, only had two on the lot. Took one for a test drive and when they got back, told them we need the keys, this car just sold. She purchased one that was in transit and had to wait three weeks for it to be delivered. Went to dinner Friday night and passed by Nissan, Chrysler, Kia, Toyota, Buick/GMC, Ford, and Hyundai. Lots were pretty empty all around. We have a large auto mall with 20 or so dealers in it and I pass by one of their storage lots everyday on my way to work. It has been empty for the last 6 months. Prior to this, it has been packed for the 5 years I have worked at this place. All manufacturers seem to be majorly impacted around here.

That’s pretty cold to sell a car while you’re test driving it. That dealer would promptly and loudly know my feelings on that. And they would never do business with me again

Why is that cold? If someone test drove it already and called saying they wanted it the dealer is suppose to tell them "no, its being test drove"? Not knowing if the person even wants it? They didnt put money down on it to hold it or anything? The vehicle is still for sale and anyone test driving is just a tire kicker until they pull the trigger.

So in your mind the dealer should say "sorry its being test drove right now i cant sell it". Then the person test driving decides its not what they are looking for so dealer calls guy back who has already said he wanted it to find out while he was dickin around the guy who wanted it already moved on to another dealer where he purchased "X" vehicle already, losing the sale. Sounds to me someone was told they were special a few to many times as a child.

Well more context helps. That’s fair game then. But if someone calls while I’m out for a test drive and actively purchasing the vehicle I should have first opportunity at the deal since I’m present and at the dealership. I think if someone swoops in and says sold on the phone while I’m there is a bit over the top.
