Went on a track day today at Bedford Autodrome and thought I’d post to let you all know how it went (... if you can’t be bothered to read any more – it went well!)
First off, I had the Roush axle-backs taken off for the day. It was reading 104db when I checked, and the stock exhaust read 81db at the track today, so a vast difference. Track day limit was 101db
The challenge with the axle-backs is that the original pipe is cut, leaving the stock exhaust and original pipe the same diameter with nothing to join them back together (whereas the roush slides over the original pipe and clamps on).
So I had a specialist exhaust company make me up two sections of pipe which slide over the stock exhaust pipe and muffler pipe to re-join them, and clamp on.
I also had the wheel spacers removed for the day to avoid any rubbing.
Also managed to finally get my GT350R steering wheel fitted (which is so much nicer to use than the original one). A highly recommended mod if you haven’t got one yet.
Beautiful weather for it today.
And a good variety of cars on the track, from hot hatches to a brand new 911 Turbo S.
And there was a Camaro there too would you believe.
I was really impressed with how she handled, and a bit surprised if I’m honest. Maybe I shouldn’t have been, given the mods on the car, but nonetheless.
Coming from my previous cars (an R35 GT-R and before that an Evo X FQ-400) I wasn’t expect as much in the handling department as I got.
Very little body roll, good stability, good turn-in. No detectable understeer.
The car felt pretty much spot-on to me in terms of balance overall.
My non-cosmetic mods by the way are KW coilovers, Eibach anti-roll bars (stiffest setting rear, softest setting front), Steeda differential bushing inserts, Eibach camber bolts, Steeda short-throw shifter, Steeda cold air intake, EBC yellowstuff pads and Steeda clutch-spring.
Only two problems occured.. the second of which fixed the first.
The first problem was that the bonnet lifted up at 130mph and above.. It moved around like a mad thing. Didn’t come off but really made me think it was going to.
I remember reading about this on the forum and people saying it’ll stay on but really didn’t feel safe to me.
Then the second problem occurred.. the undertray below the front splitter broke off. Probably because I have an aftermarket splitter and the airflow didn’t work correctly at high speed.
Anyway, I removed it completely and, lo and behold, it solved the bonnet problem completely. The undertray will be staying off!

The brakes were superb. I only did about 5 laps at a time (bearing in mind each lap is 3.8 miles) but they performed superbly with the yellowstuff pads on and didn’t fade at all.
No idea how they’d perform after say 10 laps.. but 5 was enough for me.

The mustang got loads of attention. I only went out once on track without someone else wanting a passenger ride. I think I converted a few people onto Mustangs :-)
I also let one guy (who was a drifting instructor at Santa Pod) have a few laps driving. He couldn’t have been more complimentary.

Well chuffed overall… great day and I have even more enthusiasm now for what has turned out to be quite a superb car. :clap2:
