My dash cam just arrived. I am going to use a fender cover and/or a blanket so I don't scratch my dash. Also need to find my snake.

I will try to run the snake with an endoscope attached to get some video of the available space for the camera cable. I am sure it is overkill but if it helps someone else, then it will be worth it.

I also found a video from CJ Pony on how to detach and unclip the roof and the C pillar covers when seating in the back. Goal of the video was to reach the shark fin screw from below.
But it gave me more visuals of what’s hiding. I’ll try again this w-e.

Second try is an absolute disaster. Fish tape got stuck right away, can’t go through, can’t pull back. I need to remove the headliner to figure out my next steps.
On a site note, this is what the new rear cam looks like.

How does the cable go into the camera body? Mine is out of the end. The video posted above shows how to get the rear down and may be all you need to see.
What does your fish tape look like?

Freaking fish tape was double stuck. Needed 3 hands and a pry tool to guide it back out. I just undid the tangle and am now taking a breather before the next move — but it should be very smooth from here on. Except of course for the part where I have to put the headliner back in. And reattach the sun visor. And reattach the A, B, and C pillar covers.
On the plus side, I learned a lot of new skills today. And you guys have now the intelligence on what not to do.

I believe we have the same rear cam. I have to look. The snake I will be using is a 15' long wide version that was availabe at home despot. It has a plastic end that is flat and I have not opened it yet.

Why not run the cable along the edge?
Is the cable not going to rattle when it is laid through the middle?

My advice: Watch the CJ Pony video in this thread and pop the rear right C pillar cover and the headliner rear magnets. It is a pretty easy step. Then peek from the back as you or someone else pushes the fish tape in from the middle of the passenger sun visor, foot by foot so that you can visually confirm you are not getting tangle. Pulling back is trivial except for the last half foot. Probably best to tape the video cable to the bottom of the fish tape when pulling back.

I saw that there are tons of airbags and other stuff there. Wouldn’t want to mix in. The cable is 3x too long, so I folded it in back to its factory shape and push it 1 foot in, then reclipped the rear magnets. I doubt it will move but if it ever rattles, I’ll wrap some foam around the folded loop, easily reachable from the rear seats when the headliner magnets are popped.

Damn.. I think I like the look of your rear camera better than mine. I wonder why they changed the housing.

Thanks for posting the headliner pics @RTFM
Looks like I got really lucky with my snake run.

For anyone looking try their luck before pulling the headliner shoot for here:

Your snake has an end that is much better than a bare wire with a bent hook. I have the same end on mine and it was the shortest available at home depot. It is made to get through tight spaces.
My rear camera is round. I bought a reconditioned setup for around $160. Not sure yet which sd card to use.
Edit: There was a 128gb card in it already. The order said it didn't come with one.
