So at 3800 miles, the AC in my R is acting up. I drove to work today and when I left, it seemed like it was blowing 100% warm but it cooled every once in a while on the way home. I messed with it some more when I got home and determined that the passenger side is cooling (although not at 100%) and the drivers side seems like it's not cooling.

How does the air pass through the condenser? Does each side of the car come from one side of the condenser? What I'm imagining is that the system is malfunctioning and can somehow get half of the unit cold.

The other possibility is whatever they are using for a mixing valve for the dual temp control....but like I said, the passenger side doesn't seem to get 100% cold, either - so I suspect a systemic issue.

Best way to not break A/C is to not use A/C. Windows down sirs, windows down.

It seems like these AC's are crapping out left and right, sorry to hear but it sounds like something fairly normal (for the forum anyways)

You are correct the evaporators are a known issue, dash has to come out to replace it.

I know because not only is my car at the shop for this very thing with only 3k miles on the clock. The compressor also seems to require replacement on mine.

In Arizona in the summer you get cited for attempted suicide if you do that.

I know cars have problems, yada yada...but I've owned a small handful of new cars and have never had an AC problem with them. 3800 miles and my entire dash has to be pulled out?

I'd consider selling this and doing a 964 project car... If the car is going to break from time to time, might as well have an old Porsche.

I've had the evaporator replaced TWICE since the original failed. The first replacement was part S. The one now is part W. The dealer has done a good job removing the dash and instrument panel for the installation. No squeaks coming from the dash and the electronics are working fine. Crossing my fingers....

You're out of your mind.
I'm starting to think I should have bought a Base R with no A/C. Only time I use A/C is when its raining to prevent the windows from fogging up in the humid ass Florida climate.

That would be tons of fun but far from budget friendly. I had a 964 for 10 years (the A/C worked great the whole time), put 100k miles on it but sold it for a 993 before the engine overhaul ate me out of house and home. Sold the 993 to get the Shelby, but so far have been very glad I did. The old Porsches are awesome but certain costs are not for the faint of heart.
