I just replaced my worn out 305/45/17R MT drag radials with a set of Hoosier 28/10/17 slicks .. With my old MTs I was 60 footing 1.41 to 1.45 , now with the Hoosier 28/10/17 slicks I'm spinning like hell and running 1.55s+ 60 footers ..From what I have read the Hoosiers hook better than the MTs but I having no luck with them .. I tried PSI from 16 PSI all the way down to 13 PSI and it still spins like crazy ..So what gives ? I only got 4 passes on them , do I need more time to break them in ? Bigger burn outs ? or did I just buy the wrong damn tire ? My car is a 3.55 gear auto making about 700 to the tires .. I have all the BMR stuff as well as the Viking drag shocks set at 5c and 9r , same setting as I used with the MT tires .. Thanks for any input ...:frusty:

They do need some passes on them before they really start to hook, but also if the track is prepped really bad they will not hook,I have this happen to me at capitol where the prep was so bad they w would not hook.

Also.u can go down to 12 psi hot,if your 13 psi was cold after your burn out u were probably 14 or 15 psj.

Funny you should say that .. After test and tune I put them back to 23 psi for the drive home ..I stopped in front of my house and did a burn out and the tires dead hooked on the street ..

Mine is a manual, but I have not gotten mine to come anywhere near a dead hook. I have slow motion video of the launches, and every one the tires spin at least 2 full revolutions before the suspension starts to move. I have gone down to 10psi cold, but it is quite the handful on shifts down the track, I usually keep it at 12-12.5psi cold. Once the suspension starts to move, I get so much weight transfer that the tires will rub the quarters, and that's with the Vikings maxed on compression and BMR drag springs. The one time I launched with them on the street, the guy next to me swore that I pulled the tires, and it def. felt like it launched pretty hard.

Slicks will require more of a burnout than drag radials.

Why did you switch over to the slicks? Were you having trouble with the drag radials? I have had a 1.39 on the et street r drag radial. Are you still on the stock stall?

Slicks do need more of a burnout than radials. Good and smokey white burnout.

I was always under the impression that slicks were for manual cars and radials were for autos?

Price .. 400.00 for the pair Hoosiers or 600 for a pair of M/T 305/45/17 .. The M/Ts only lasted a half a season and it has been said the Hoosier last much much longer .. I spent most of the year in the hospital and have limited funds to play with the car ..

The only problem I had with the drag radials was when they do spin the run is over , you can't get them to recover from the spinning ..I have had my car spin with the M/Ts and up shift two or 3 gears in a split second .. The Hoosiers last night spun in first gear but didn't up shift , it stayed in first and when the car hit second gear the tires hooked hard ..

I did notice today when I changed back to my daily driver tires I had ZERO rubber on my 1/4 panels ... With the Drag radials after a night of racing I had rubber stuck everywhere and was hell to clean up .. Looking at the slicks today after removing them I found 4 shinny strips about inch wide that looked like the tire never touched the track .. Both tires looked like this.. I don't know how that is possible with 13 PSI ( hot ) in the tires .. I have run M/T 10x29 slicks for years and never had this problem .. That car was 3890 pounds and would 1.29 60 foot and pull the wheels a foot off the ground with 14 PSI cold in the tires ..

Well for a s550 that has some truth in it .. Manuals will break the half shafts with drag radials , so most manuals cars run slicks .. But I have seen plenty of s550 auto cars run slicks ( Hoosiers ) and run low 9s ..

Thanks , I'll keep that in mind for the next time I go .. We have a all Mustang race every 3 weds night .. I hope the track prep is better and I can get these tires to work ..
