Built a small block 400 chevy .030" over = 406. 5.7 rods and a stout roller hyd roller cam with .550/.550 lift. Dart Alum heads professionally ported. Made killer torque but it was all over at 6k rpm. Made a great street strip engine.

The Gen 3 Coyote is just an awesome powerplant, I still grin every time I drive it. The mid-range to 7500 rpm redline, the sound, the feel, it's my favorite. With an A10 behind it, it's magic.

I'm getting ready to purchase a 5.0 out of a 93' Mustang to swap into my 81 Jeep CJ7. Jeep has AMC bell housing and already have a t18 adapted to the dana 300. I've had this jeep for 25 years and the 5.0 was always the motor i planned on swapping in there.

Since then, many Ford V8's have come and gone. Any recommendations on to what other motor (Ford) i should swap in? I'd rather buy a donor car and do my swap then buying a motor already out of the car.

or should i just stick with the original 5.0 plan?

The Yamaha triple in my 1977 XS750 (hence my username). Loads of torque below 4k, and will scream up to 10k. The exhaust note is neither deep and low like a Triumph triple nor high strung like a Kawasaki triple. Everywhere I take it people comment about the unique sound of it. The sound has always reminded me more of an English inline 6 (sort of) like Jag. Fantastic little engine.

Hellcat engine was my favorite. That sound was intoxicating.

302 is a solid swap. 351 I believe uses the same mounting points/Bell housing pattern so that could be another contender but it really just depends on if you want the additional cubes or not. It will make more low end power which is great for a Jeep.

Of course the AMC 360 is an excellent choice, but that would pull you away from the Ford preference.

Probably the Honda 3.5L V6 in our Pilot. Do not get my wrong, love my V8. It just the V6 has a nice howl to it, especially when you get it above 4K and the VTECH starts to engage. Its not loud but just pleasing IMO. Most likely will run for at least 200K miles without any issues too.

i Have a few, a Hyundai Tiburon SE, the 2.7 V6 in that thing is a pleasure to drive, a simple muffler delete and it sounds like it has more balls than it does, it's slow, but makes what power it has very linear. great little V6.

the 4.3 chevy v6, it had no power, no torque, but the 4.10's in my s10 ZR2 with the version of the 4.3 it had being mpfi ran great. That truck went far into the woods and brought me back every time, one of the few vehicles I've regretted selling.

I also has a Buick 455 in a 86 cutlass, it would not rev but made ALL the torque. that thing would fry tires all day long, at least until the BOP 10 bolt threw in the towel.

My most favorite, however, is the 12.5:1 compression 454 i built for my Chevelle. It dyno'd at 640hp@6800 rpm with a smooth roll over and 620 lb ft.@ 4200 rpm but the torque curve was table top flat. Backed by a Muncie M22 4 speed and 3.73's that car was a lot of fun, it didn't stay together for long before a part failure took it out, a roller lifter locked up and took out the cam with it, I just haven't had time to get it out and back apart. I'm thinking about a pump gas 540 this time around though.

What’s your favorite (or favorites) engine you’ve owned?

Or - if you’ve got something to say about all of them, let’s hear it.

1: 5.0 Coyote. [... text deleted ...]
2: AMC/Chrysler 4.0 I-6. [... text deleted ...].
3: Ford 4.6 2v, [... text deleted ...]
4: Ford 2.0 Ecoboost. [... text deleted ...]
5: Chrysler 4.7 HO - [... text deleted ...]
6: Mitsubishi 2.0 [... text deleted ...]
Yeah - let's stick with Fords, as that's all I do :) Here's my list:

1. 5.2l "Voodoo" V8. 526bhp, 8,250 rpm, exhaust notes so pleasant, few use the radio. Need I say more? Mine's a '19 in my GT350R - no oil consumption, no engine failure, just pure bliss. If only Ford continued the development and raced this engine more.

2. 351C-4V (M-code 1970 or '71 R-code Boss 351): Not a big block, not a small block. Large canted valves, serious power from just 351 cubic inch displacement - big block power from small block weight. My 1970 Mach I and 1971 Pantera were all the convincing I needed. IMHO Ford gave up on this engine too quickly - there should not have been a 351M.

3. 302-4V Boss (G-code, 1970). Mix the best of #2 on this list with #4 and you have perhaps the best of all worlds (302-4V) variant of #4). And racing history to prove it's worth. Solid lifters, 1.73:1 rockers arms on screw-in studs, aluminum valve covers, Holley carb, Again, Ford didn't stick with it for long enough - just 2 years!

4. 289-4V "HiPo" (K-code, 1963-67). The engine that started modern Ford engine history. The Cobra, the Falcon, the Mustang, the Shelby GT350 - and let's not forget the Tiger. Ford should have continued the 289 at least until 1970. Screw-in studs, cast-in spring seats, solid lifter camshaft, free flowing manifolds, great rods, Autolite 4150 carb

5. 2.3l I4 Intercooled Turbo (T-code, 1986 SVO Mustang). This engine was around for a while and with the advent of EEC-IV they got it right. This was the basis of Ford's Indy program engine. And it rocks!

You'll note that there's a decidedly small block theme going on in my list - totally consistent with my philosophy. And when I told him, Carroll Shelby agreed with me!

Honorable mention goes to:
- 1999-2002 4.6l DOHC Aluminum block V8 (Cobra)
- 2010-present 5.0l V8 "Coyote"

383 in my 73 Cuda. That thing was bullet proof. VG30DETT in my Z is badass but a bitch to work on.

It's hard to separate the engine from the vehicle.

I enjoyed my Taurus SHO with it's 3.0 Yamaha V6.

And my Merkur Xr4Ti with it's SOHC 2.3L turbo.

And the 2.0L in my Prelude SI.

But I think the largest grin factor was the 4.6L in my 2005 Mustang GT. Just because it was the largest leap forward performance wise for me.

1. Gen 3 coyote is definitely the best engine I’ve owned. Much more power than anything I’ve had before. Seems like it has decent low end even though it’s a top end screamer. Also seems like it gets close to the same mpg as my stock 89 fox 5.0 lol

2. gen 2 LT1 in a 95 camaro. Maybe my memory is a bit fuzzy on this one as it was my first car. But I remember that car having such an awesome linear feel to the accel pedal. I owned a 98 camaro ls1 after the 95, and while it was faster at the strip, I don’t remember it being as fun to drive on the street.

3. Zetec 2.0 in 98 zx2 m5. That engine just would not quit. Got the car with 270k miles and drove the absolute piss out of it for a few years, redlining it all the time. Got rid of it with about 315k because I didn’t want to replace the rusted gas tank that was leaving a puddle when parked. Sold it to a buddy that drove it for another year until a brake line rotted out, then scrapped it.

L-88 427. I got in the loop of guys that had been trading the parts around for years and built it in 1981 when I was 16. I put it in my 70 SS Chevelle. That thing was a nasty beast.

Liking my gen 2 Coyote more now that it's got headers and a tune.

But my vote goes to Mazda's 13B REW with a big single turbo.

1. Gen 3 Coyote. I like how it has an American V8 sound at low rpms and then screams at high rpms. Really nice tech and makes great power stock. I like how the powerband encourages you to rev it out.

2. L75 455 in my 74 Firebird. It was highly modified and the power delivery was quite brutal and fun. Big cam, Hooker headers and glasspacks. Sounded like the gates of hell opening up. It also attracted every fricking cop in the area.

3. LS1 in my 98 Firebird. Great performer. Great sound. Never gave me any problems.

4. 4.2L V8 in the 03 Audi S4 I owned. Good tech. High revving. Sounded pretty good.

5. 4.0L V6 in a 06 Xterra. Plenty of power and torque for a V6 and it never felt slow. It was reliable.
