Have you tried holding it up by your head? I know it sounds weird but they actually had a thing on Myth Busters about extending the range by holding it by your head and it actually works. I'm not sure on how much further it works but it would be worth a shot.
Actually you need to press it up under your chin - turns your head into an antenna. Yes I do this all the time with the wife's autostart on here Explorer Sport...range is really pathetic, but with my big noggin as an antenna its decent.

This does.... it works with the factory remote start
From what I'm reading both DEI and Viper are add-ons to existing security or DEI/Viper branded remote starts. I'm willing to bet your shop did not tie in with the OEM remote system

I did the install.... i can assure you it worked 100% with the factory system..

a DBall3 with the Ford12 firmware has RXT built in.,..RXT is designed to work with existing factory remote start systems.

with a DBall3 as a gateway, you can connect a smartstart module to it and it works 100% perfect. I do this install on fords 100's of times a year... Its never an issue.
