Expanding Mustang's platform

Although Mustang's leading the sales charts in it's segment this isn't totally good news as it seems the segment is suffering compared to previous years. Luckily Ford banked on selling this globally so that helps a bit.

Should Ford exploit Mustang's platform and build a 2+2 sedan? Not a Mustang with four doors, but a complete new top hat with it's own, new name.

It's called the Charger and Chevy SS Sedan. Ford doesn't really have one. Nor do I think they care to.

I think they absolutely should. It doesn't have to be a "Mustang sedan", it could just be a 4-door that uses the Mustang's chassis and powertrains. Call it the Falcon or the Interceptor if you like. It would give consumers more options and potentially bring costs down.

The original Mustang was based on the Falcon.....make a new Falcon based on the Mustang

There is always going to be another generation of Mustang (ie: S650), but we are talking about alternatives to the Mustang, that is best left for Lincoln to fill. Perhaps a Mustang chassis with a hatch..? & call it the Lincoln Merkur. And bring the Focus RS over to the Lincoln brand and DNA, & call it the XR4ti. (Amirite?)

To me, a much bigger question is, what special Mustang will there be in 2018..?
Bullitt..? Mach..? SVO..? Mamba..? GT500..? Rodan..?


Personally would like to see a GT350 R stripped of it's engine, & the new 2.7 "twin-fuel" EcoBoost slapped with w/Ford Performance sauce all over it... a deep breathing 480ft-lbs torque monster, that is agile & quick as a Mamba. Perhaps even a CF driveshaft... with tremendous cooling & braking. $50k.

If they would do that, I would probably trade my car in for one. I was looking into a srt8 charger/300 before my 15, but couldn't find one. So I searched for a sho, but the interior didn't really convince me.
I have two girls so a four door car is more practical for me.

Too bad Mercury is dead, because a new Cougar in the mold of the original on the platform would be awesome.

(Major Cougar fan here, have owned as many Cougars as Mustangs....)
