Hi,

For a while now the sound of my 2019 Bullitt just seems to have gone quieter, it’s lost its “rumble”, the exhaust tone sounds like one continuous tone, lost its burble and clarity, not as crisp, lost the pops on overrun or they are there but sounds like the whole exhaust or car is enclosed inside a box and you’re listening on the outside to what’s coming out of it, like it’s dampened down ..difficult to explain...very muted sound.

it still pulls ok, some days I’ll give it some gas, push it hard and something seems to clear, the sound almost comes back for a while albeit still not as crisp as it should be, start it the next day and it’s back to being shit again....

Car has done 17k miles in a year, varied driving conditions.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Maybe an exhaust leak, or a muffler issue. No noticeable change in performance?

You have Active Exhaust. Set it to track mode, it will be loud.

This. I agree with NoVaGT. AE, even set to quiet mode, will open valves to full if you do WOT, so AE on quiet mode may sound like the exhaust is working part of the time because heavy throttle will revert to free-er flowing mode temporarily.

Yeah it’s not the active exhaust, it’s opening and closing according to exhaust mode set, valves functioning as they should do.

PS it’s not the volume between modes that’s the issue, it’s the fact it’s lost the crispness and burble on all modes (except quiet mode obvs), pops etc are all muted from how they should sound on sport and track and normal . It doesn’t sound like a V8 mustang should or how it was from new.

so track mode is just a louder version of shit than sport mode, which in turn is a louder version of shit than normal mode and so on...

Have you checked your air filter? Maybe it's clogged?

Check inlet air flow and vacuum lines. Have you changed gasoline brands lately?

All good, also I always run on 99 octane.
It was running very lean, plus prior to installing a catch can and swapping the PCV valve out it was burning a lot of oil. I’m wondering if the cats are fouled maybe, which is why it sounds better after I’ve booted it and run for a while sometimes?

Time for an aftermarket exhaust. Borla or Corsa? Just kidding. I would try a different grade of gas maybe a tank or two of 87 or 93. Keep us updated.
