In MN, some school districts in the Twin Cities area were to try a few electric buses to determine feasibility (I think I might have brought it up before). I haven't heard one peep as to how it went, but considering how savage our winters can be I suspect the results have been predictable. I can see them working within a limited range, but I don't see it as a replacement across the board in this state.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the "results" were biased, as MN is quickly becoming another CA.

I've come to realize there is a disadvantage to EVs for someone like me.

3 second 0-60 is great but why oh why can I not find a single navigation app that can plot the route with the most stop signs?

Tesla really missed the chance to make the default sound the rumble of a diesel electric locomotive at idle and then the crescendo when the engineer commands 1200 rpm boogie, overlayed with the increasing reen reen reen reen you get from thyristor controlled motors as found on commuter trains. The chub factor is at 11.

The Ford EV skunkworks team is led by former Tesla engineering director Alan Clarke, and has been operating in total secrecy and more like a startup in Irvine, California. Farley has recently made it quite clear that the automaker is quite literally betting its future on this effort, which will lead to the creation of a $30k crossover set to launch in late 2026, followed by a small pickup and potentially a dedicated ride share vehicle.

Yup, I guess they don't teach that you only double down on stupid when it's blackjack or Texas holdem.

You could price every mach-e to 35k and you STILL won't get rid of existing inventory.

Losing 1 billion every quarter is apparently not enough. Gotta lose even more money and faster.

Hello; Wonder how much will be lost on each of these new units? Read they lost about $50,000 per EV so far.

Pit proof?

Youtube of Arkansas state police high speed pursuit of what appears to be a Tesla Model 3 Long Range rented off Turo. Has the dual motor badge, but not the red Brembos of my faster Performance Model.

It appears the Tesla accident-avoidance capabilities defeated 2 pit maneuvers and only lost to a 3rd after eventual complete tire deflation from spike strips.

Final pit in Tennessee with deflated Tesla tire leaving the vehicle at 4:03.

I guess this means Bufford T. Justice really could pursue bandit across county and state lines.

Hello; Interesting video. I wonder what the top speeds were? I might be mistaken but the police pursuit vehicle seemed to be having a hard time catching the Tesla.

I wonder how long the Tesla could run at those speeds?

So remember to have the accident avoidance turned on when running from police.

Not sure but think police can chase into other states when in "hot pursuit". No real knowledge on that.

I'm surprised the first thing they didn't do was call customer service.

Hello; I think i get it. The car could be shut down remotely. Brings up a thought. Future cars are trending to computers on wheels. The police car AI can maybe talk to the speeder and tell it to pull over.

The biggest European car market, Germany, saw the sales of electric vehicles plummet by 36.8% in July from a year earlier, as EV sales are softening worldwide and as Berlin ended subsidies at the end of 2023.

Funny how that happens. You mean the demand isn't organic?

Huge Fire Sparked by a Mercedes-Benz EV Adds to Safety Concerns Dogging Industry (msn.com)

Hello; much of this story is just another episode of a well known story. That being when a EV battery goes up in flame it is very hard to put out. Possibly somewhat correct to say they are not put out so much as the energy stored in the battery packs is allowed to be expended while the fire fighters try to prevent the spread.

Article threw in the expected bit about there are more ICE fires. Guess that makes sense as there are still very many more ICE around than there are EV's. The big difference is not the number of EV fires but how difficult they are to control.

A new idea emerges in the link. A proposal to move EV charging stations to the outside and to not have them inside underground garages in South Korea. I imagine someone will note that the EV which burned was not being charged at the time. I do not have evidence to present but have an impression the greater danger for an EV fire is during rapid charging. That huge amounts of energy per second is being transferred being the main risk factor.

A last thought of mine is the end game of those pushing EV adoption. The goal is to have all vehicles being EV. What would be the result of such a fire in an underground garage if all the vehicles were EV? I get this is unlikely to happen for a few reasons. Some emotional but most being real such as physical limits of the grid including a real lack of essential materials such as copper.
