The majors know oil is the very foundation of all modern life. So they can keep quiet and pretend to virtue signal all the while knowing the lunacy will be abandoned in the harsh light of reality.

Hell the lone voices crying out in the desert about the falsity of AGM are being joined by a chorus of credentialed people who no longer need to fear persecution from thr igorant media.

The narrative is falling apart and rapidly so. Pity it took 15 years instead of 3 months to demonstrate the abject stupidity of the AGM acolytes.

I got no objections to improving our stewardship of the earth and put an end to senseless pollution.

I'm tempted to go to the Gaithersburg auction for chunks of a 300 year old oak they recently cut down so I can burn it and free all that precious carbon that's been sequestered for far too long. Maybe use it in my smoker on a nice pork butt.

And it's utterly hilarious that couple of forest fires wiped out decades of "clean air" initiatives. Forest fires in no small part the direct result of patently stupid mismanagement of the forests and power line rights of way etc.

I used to be a member of Isaac Walton. If there is any group that will lead to mass death and destruction of earth, it's the greenies.

Hello; yes to this. Yet they claim to know enough to shut down a working world wide energy and transport system and replace it with an experimental plan.

The first Blue Bird electric bus, which arrived in summer 2020, sometimes sped up too quickly when the motor surged. Other times, it went into "limp mode," where it crept along but wouldn't accelerate.

It has been repeatedly hauled away β€” on a flatbed trailer pulled by a diesel truck β€” and has spent months undergoing repairs, according to Remley.

Bishop Unified's second electric Blue Bird came a few months later.

"The second bus worked a lot better. Until it caught on fire," Remley said.

Too funny

Max range in perfect weather is 93 miles, one of the busses needs to go 170 to get the kids to a athletic event.

Can't make this shit up.

Hello; We don't have to make anything up to show the flaws in the EV fleets at this stage. Let me say again if the EV's were competing without mandates and an added estimated $50,000 of incentives and subsidies per vehicle the deal would not bother me.

1.2-Million-Mile Tesla Model S Has Gone Through 13 Motors And Three Battery Pack Replacements (msn.com)
Hello; The article focuses on the total miles of the EV. Does mention the many replacements of motors and battery packs, but no details on costs. Might be more impressive if overall costs were known.
I can keep an ICE going if I replace a bunch of engines and transmissions. The million-mile newsworthy mark for an ICE is usually for doing so on one engine.

I would like to know more of the details living with an EV while putting on so many miles. To put over 100,000 miles a year must require a lot of seat time. I would guess a lot of charge time??? Does he pay at commercial chargers more than at home? How hard is it to get work done on the EV as it clearly must have ben in a shop a lot?

Might be the details will put the EV into a good light or might be a horror story for most of us.

To be fair, apparently the original OEM motor went to 400,000 miles before it quit. Since that point they kept using "re-manufactured" replacements, which are dogshit pretty much always. The amount of times I will put a re-manufactured ANYTHING on any of my cars is zero.

3 battery packs in 1.2 million miles ain't bad. If we treat them like engines (since modern engines aren't too dissimilar in cost), that's pretty par for the course. There are some engines out there that can do a million miles, but not many. And almost zero transmissions that will do it (if we're excluding heavy equipment like semi tractors).

Personally I don't think reliability of EV's is much of a low point with them. People tend to think of the best, longest lasting ICE cars as some kind of standard, when in reality most cars don't even make it to 200K. Bad designs and bad owners plague ICE cars. For every 1UZ or LS, there's millions of Hyundai 2.4's or other junk out there. I don't think EV's are immune to this, but they do have fewer moving parts and more standardized setups. And dumbasses can't forget to change their oil for 20k miles and ruin an engine either...

Hello; Let me state again I am not an EV hater. My displeasure starts with the policies surrounding the way EV's ae being pushed onto us. I would resent that sort of "forced event" even if the BEV's were a perfect vehicle. However, I could tolerate the situation if the product was a better replacement than the product it replaces.
LED lights might be a good example. I resent the government mandates about incandescent lights but have voluntarily switched most of my lights to LED. The LED lights are proven to be just as good as the old type as far as function and have two benefits. Less waste heat and run on less energy to get the same level of lumens. I did not need the government outlawing the old-style bulbs. As LED type became cost effective, I replaced the old style except for my oven light.
Yet the government could not let good enough alone. Someone, likely an office worker needing to justify their position, came up with a largely unneeded mandate. LED's won on their own when they became cost effective.

BEV's are not LED lights in that they are not a superior replacement for the ICE they are mandated to replace. On top of being an inferior product in many ways they are far more expensive than the product they replace.
There is another level to the BEV vs. ICE situation. That being the rationalization behind the EV push. My take is the EV champions understood the serious flaws in the platform and had to come up with a way to justify mandating the mass adoption of an inferior product.
Could be the zealots behind these policies are true believers. That they look at the BEV thru very darkly tinted rose colored glasses failing to see the obvious flaws in the plan.
Perhaps they are like the two teams who built the Hubble Space telescope and have good intentions and do not understand they have a flawed product. One team using metric while the other using standard English measurement units. Seems the EV side is not working well with the fuel source (electric power) of the plan. Seems even if the BEV's many flaws can be fixed that the source of energy to run them will fall short.

Back to the more current posts. I understand well enough what it takes to keep an ICE going. I also understand even an ICE will wear out even with the best of care. What i do not understand is what it takes to keep an EV going. I appreciate that there are at least two EV owners posting currently. Before the folks i called the champions were advocates without owning a pure EV. You own one and can give us first person experiences.

Public service alert. Read the fine print carefully when shopping for EVs on Craigs list. I've noticed an increase of ads warning "batteries not included."

An often-overlooked benefit of driving a Tesla is bird and tree protection.

Since the upper surfaces from rear to hood are all glass, the tiny painted frunk panel is a tough target for them to hit. Plus if they miss and hit anywhere else, the glass is pretty impervious to chemical damage from crap or sap.

I don’t know if this has been posted or not; however seems dealerships are electing to close shop rather than being pushed into selling EV’s…

That’s one way to say β€œno” that EV is not the solution or that anyone should be pushed into the EV segment (ie: no new ICE sales after year XXXX).

"Buick announced last year that dealers must invest at least $300,000 to $400,000 for tooling, equipment, and personnel training to prepare for the EV transition. Otherwise, they could opt for the buyout."

Hello; The closest dealer to my location is also a GMC dealer. I wonder if they will have the same choice over the trucks???

The cost of repair is the main thing to keep me away from buying an EV at the moment.
Plus most of us here can rebuild our engines, how many of us here can rebuild a electric engine ??
Assuming we are even allowed to get the " parts" for them.

EV's are pretty basic. Amperage equals torque and Voltage equals HP. Gear ratio's to your advantage. Battery and Speed controller temp management is also another factor. The rest is just "tuning" the system. Things like battery management, throttle and brakes. Regen braking force based of the accelerometer. Heck, you can even messed around with the motor timing, just like our IC engines. Performance to weight ratio is the trickiest part.....which is $$$$

The only moving part in an electric motor is the armature and the only potential wear item is the bearings on the end of the armature. Bearing seizure on a sealed brushless motor is very rare.
