Looks like I will be needing to transport a new GT350 about 1200 miles (fingers crossed). I’ve never done this before so I’m just looking for some recommended enclosed transport companies/cost/tips etc.

Thought I would bring this back to the top- Found some info, but they were older threads. I really appreciate all the knowledge and helpfulness of everyone here!

I tried to have mine shipped in Dec. when I bought it. I was quoted roughly 14-1700$ for about the same mileage. Iowa to NM. The problem I had is all the different brokers basically use the same lead boards to put the shipment out. Think of it as Craigslist or Ebay for shipping. I ended up going and getting my car and trailering it back myself. I pulled the plug when the driver almost damaged the car attempting to load it. Luckily the dealer stopped him. If I was going to the shipping route I would probably hire Reliable Carriers. They do cost more. For me the cost got to the point I said screw it and took a couple days off and did it myself. This time of year the weather is pretty decent and if you absolutely dont want the mileage on it you may consider just flying in, taping up the front end and driving it back yourself.

Based on all facets of the trucking industry being slower than normal right now there is a great deal of capacity and suggest that also applied to enclosed car carriers therefore freight rates right now are as good as they are going to get.

I have used many different carriers all depending where you are shipping from and where your car is going to but suggest that you call Reliable Carriers, Passport Transport and Horseless Carriage and don't be afraid of trying to negotiate a good price for your move with all of these quality carriers.

With as slow as it is you might want to even car Mecum Transport as they have ~15 trucks in their small fleet and also do a quality job.

Last but not least, do not use the services of a freight broker and suggest you work directly with one of the above quality carriers.

Good luck!

:)

Thanks for the info Inthehighdesert and PP0001!
Initially I had it in my head to haul it myself but I’ve gotten anxious about the various aspects of hauling it about 18 hours. It would be a memorable experience and part of the story of the car but my gut says pay someone to haul it -

I got three quotes a couple weeks ago for 1600(?) miles. Reliable and Intercity, who are regarded as two of the best, were $2250 and $2000. The third was a broker who quoted $1650.

My deal didn't pan out, but I would have had Intercity do it for a little more peace of mind.

I thought it might be a little cheaper with Barrett-Jackson and Mecum not having live auctions, but I guess that doesn't affect their pricing.

I ship a lot of cars and this guy, Rashad, is reliable, very good and fairly priced. I have used this company many times and would recommend them:

I just got a quote from incognito express....enclosed teailer, from houston to chicago 1000 miles, $1100

i would drive it and break it in.....i drove my blue car from chicago to houston for the turbo build/auto swap and it was awesome. Took 17hrs and i now know there is a super sketchy truck stop next to a porn dvd store that has clean bathrooms and sticky floors in missouri.

I had very good service from Intercity Lines (www.intercitylines.com) , they delivered a Porsche from Ohio to Massachusetts, very professional. I called several firms and was expecting Intercity top be very pricey, but they were about the same as the others. Congrats on your GT350 and good luck with the transport.

Based on my past experience with respect to cost you can typically count on $1.00/mile to $1.25/mile with obviously short haul trips being more costly per mile and long trips being cheaper per mile.

Suggest that your cost should be no more than $1200 to $1400 for this trip with a quality enclosed car carrier.

I shipped my car from Kansas to California last week. I had asked IntercityLines and PassportTransport but since they have limited trailers, they took a while to find a trailer for me.
I went with united routes, they have their own trailers but they hooked me up with Safe Auto Transport. I paid $1550 in total. $300 to united routes and $1250 to Safe Auto Transport.
When I called united routes, I told him at least 100 times (lol) that I want a trailer with hydraulic life gates. Safe Auto Transport's trailer had a hydraulic lift gate and they took good care of the car.

I would recommend you to get a quote directly from Safe Auto Transport.

Through all my research, Intercity Lines was one of the few companies that not only own the trucks, but also hire all their own drivers. That means the highest level of accountability there is for peace of mind. If something were to go wrong, I wouldn't want to deal with the potential pointing of fingers between the trucker and broker. Big bonus was that between all the reputable shippers, they had the most competitive pricing. I would have still went with them even if they were a little more expensive than the others.

I agree with staying away from brokers and bidding sites. I have bought, sold, and traded high end cars for a long time and the worst part of any deal is the shipping. Nothing like someone buying a high 6 - or 7 figure car then hiring a enclosed shipper that has the rear ramp door held in place with a couple of 2" straps. I learned a long time ago not not to deal with brokers. I have had issues with nearly every large transport company and small ones too. No longer will I assist buyers searching for shippers, people always want cheap and often pay a price in the end with damage, delayed deliveries and other multiple issues. Few shippers will guarantee a delivery dates. The large national companies like to pick up the vehicle, then often it goes to a depot, sits around and then gets put on a more economical route/time frame. I can tell 100+ stories of damaged vehicles that would make anyone shake their head in disbelief.
