A bit of clarification on the pic, the retention clip is solid and works just fine. The connector connects to the access port and sits secure. in order to release the clip you just press on the metal, which was the purpose of the plastic. I used it this way for a while and never ran into any issues with the accessport.

Additionally, the unit is for an automatic, I can get an exact model number when I get home.
