Cut out the resonator

Weld in 3 inch mandrel bent 90° from the factory down pipe to the 3 inch inlet of the straight through design muffler. We took out the flex piece on the factory pipe.

Weld in new muffler. 3 inch inlet dual 2.25 outlets. http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=171524686727&alt=web

Keep factory piping .

Cut out mufflers before the 90° bend.

Weld in new 2.25 straight pipe.

Weld on 2.25 inlet resonated tips.

I will say I'm not happy with the style of the tip sometime soon I hope to change them to more of a resonated round slash cut.

Yeah, the tips are a little funky, check out the Borla resonated tips. They have a very nice appearance.

Didn't you post a vid before of this? I can't remember.

edit: Oops, missed the video links.

Cool idea though, I actually was doing the same thing but never replaced the center section before sending my car off to get built.

Turbo's need that flex, don't be surprised if you end up with an exhaust leak.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing something like this also.

I have had 4 turbo cars that did not have a flex pipe from the factory and never had a leak issue. 3 of the 4 had well over 200,000 miles on the factory exhaust, the 4th had about 130,000 miles.

Don't think it is much of an issue especially with the longitudinal mounting of the engine.

Dgc333 it's all about the engine mounting. That's why I'm not scared

I went this route last Saturday (replace resonator with muffler and delete stock mufflers). The sound is perfect! Nice bass tone, not too loud, and just enough exhaust note in the cockpit to let you know what the engine is doing. I went with 4 inch tips. The improvement in looks alone was well worth the $ spent. I ended up spending $270 for the work and tipped the technician $20. Thanks EricRN and EcoboostJim for leading the charge on this mod and sharing the Intell. :headbang:

Can you comment on power change, if any? Also if you can post what muffler you used and if you have time a soundclip/ Phone video.

Thanks

ZXERT,

There is a perceptible increase in power and overall efficiency at reaching speed with the exhaust mod. Combined with the JLT CAI and Unleashed tune, the car is my version of automotive perfection. The muffler is a high quality Magnaflow type; straight through (not chambered) with one input and two outputs.
