Earliest GT350 and GT350R build dates

Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge on the Bosses; now these GT350R’s are repeating some but not all of the Boss history; the previous owner of mine had done his research up to 2017 and texted me “ Nice! I need to send the production numbers for 2016. 526 total Rs were built. I’m not sure what preproduction cars were released but know there were 3 released when I got this one. “ and has said mine was the first one. ; the supervisor at FP said that Rarely any were sold but yet few that made it to be sold were sure they had all the updated corrected parts first . Mine seems to have ton of clear coat and all panels fit extremely well? ? Harry I sometimes go out and just sit in it and pinch myself lol . Is it really mine? I’m hoping that we find a tally of all these early GT350/ R’s for future history like my early 65/66 Shelby owners have done. Thanks as always for your input and Tom of course. Hopefully some will chime in here and ad to what we have? Thanks Jim

I get what you are saying and as sometimes I just go and sit in my car even when it is too hot to take it out in the Arizona heat as I do not have AC and as you just very appreciative to say this car actually belongs to me!

With the Boss cars gone for some ~7 years now I suggest that we will find more and more information that surfaces on the GT350/R cars and especially the very early Pilot Production GT350/R cars.

Like you I really like the very early cars from each MY and especially after the initial launch for a new model such as when the 2016 Shelby's were launched in the Spring of 2015 which was a couple months ahead of the 2015 cars.

Having said that I also really like this 2017 GT350R which was built ~9 months after your car (February 2016) and was built especially for Jamal Hameedi who happened to be the Program Manager for the Ford GT at the time.

Like Bill Ford when he spec'd out "F0001" as a 2015 Base R model with 16 delete items so did Jamal when he spec'd out "HR001" as his 2017 Base R.

Note the Pilot Production "200000" VIN series that this car was built under even though the chassis plate does not stipulate that this was a PP car.

I thought about buying this car when it came up for sale but decided to pass on it therefore I suggested to a very close friend of mine that he purchase this cool car which he did shortly thereafter.

He has a number of cool Mustangs in his corral which also includes 5 GT350's from 2015 amongst numerous other Mustangs and drives them all when time permits in his busy work schedule.

The last time that I drove this car I believe it had ~4,400 miles on it.

PP001 is still with Ford at least it was the last time that I checked and based on my understanding it will no be going up for sale anytime soon as FP continues to use this car for various events with many of them knowing that if it ever goes up for sale to contact me.

I am not sure on the exact build date but should not be all that much earlier than your car but suggest that I could find out quite easily.

Like most other cars from Ford your car probably was sold through Manheim Auto Auctions in the Detroit area and that should be on record.

Do you know which Ford dealership purchased your car from Manheim?

Love the base as it’s the real deal! I’m wondering if you’re my age and need a break from these already fast Shelby mustangs and come up. Hayden Idaho to supervise the pulling of my original 289 A code in my rare 1965 ( Mercury comet cyclone ) while it gets it new heads/ intake/ carb / distributor and a flat tappet roller cam ; Remember those ?Armstrong steering” (No power steering )and “250” air ? ( Two windows down at 50 mph)

I remember the Comet Cyclone Gt's very well and a very cool car whether they came in the A code or K code configuration.

When I headed to the strip back in the day I really liked watching the small block 289 C.I. B/FX cars that ran in the 11's and of course the AF/X cars with the 427 C.I SOHC were really something else back in the day!
