This isn't meant to be a true competitive race, but highlights how much faster the GT500 is compared to the 1967 GT500.

It just makes me want to get behind the wheel of my new Shelby even more.

The amazing thing to me is, when I was growing up, the '60s cars were so much faster than the late '70s/80s cars we could buy at the time, and were considered the "real" performance cars. Now my GT is faster than the '67 GT500, and the 2020 GT500 is a rocket in comparison.

Nearly 1,000 LB difference really shows how much lighter cars were then. Imagine the 67' with 760 HP.

In a video where Jay Leno drives the new GT500, he goes on and on about "in my day...", talking about the changes in tech over the years. He compared driving the old muscle cars to stuffing your pants with a rolled up sock.

I saw a recent video where they dyno'ed a Ferrari Testarossa. How many posters of that car were sold in the 80s, right? It put out 320 to the wheel. Still sexy as heck to look at but not exactly a beast by today's standards. Cars just keep getting quicker. Go back 15 years and there's quite a difference. Old muscle cars are turning into more of a museum piece, a work of art.

You want to talk a work of art, lets say Boss 429. For its day the engine was a masterpiece just to look at.

Ahhh the old school. I can still go out and do that to ! Though some updates are coming. 351 HO transplanted for the 289 HO when it let go.

Really loved the video and brought back a lot of terrific memories so thanks for posting.

A very good friend of mine had a 4 speed 1967 GT350 in the same Lime Gold and it was a very cool car and enjoyed being around him and his car for over 15 years.

I recall the small block 289's in the GT350's were only about a second slower in the quarter mile than the GT500's due to being over 500 pounds lighter than the big block GT500's and if I recall correctly the GT500's ran 3.25 differential whereas the small block GT350's ran much more aggressive 3.89 gears.

Of course some of the weight savings came in the form of numerous fiberglass body panels such as the hood, nose, roof air extractors and rear deck lid.

Unfortunately the 1967 Shelby's ended up being the very last cars that Shelby American at LAX had hold complete control over these Shelby cars prior to Ford taking control of the 1968 to 1970 Shelby's and moving corporate control and production over to Michigan.

:)

I believe the GT500 base model is 4,170 lbs, not 4,225 lbs.
