Just wondering why everyone is picking the A10 trans instead of the 7 speed DCT from the GT500 - much faster shifting.

Agreed on FORD never building this car though.

You could by a GT 5.0 10R80 new, add a Gen 5 3.0 Whipple, and all supporting mods, and have a car capable of running in the 9’s all day, and with a pulley swap, and load another tune, be in the 8’s. Still be a car you could drive everyday, or even a long road trip if you want, with A/C, full interior, stereo. All for under $100K. Ford already provided the platform, with some effort and planning it would be everything you want Ford to build, and more.

The cobra jet is not street legal, and will cost you 150K + if you can even get one.

.....Dodge came out with a model called 1320, Ford needs to respond with a DRAG 5.0 model!
........Thats my idea, whats yours?
Well......since you asked.

I understand you're talking about drag racing, but I'll be talking about Grand Touring and track days. Just because it's what I'd prefer to see Ford do with the Mustang.

My idea? Put an 8spd DCT in the PP2. Then tighten up the rear suspension for much, much less flounce/wheel hop. Ford could just use Steeda's Stop The Hop Starter kit. And tighten up the Magneride settings in Track mode. Call it the PP3.

That would speed things up dramatically. A 301A PP3 car would be an AM/Porsche fighter.

Some would prefer a true auto for drag racing, and I believe the A10 is cheaper than the DCT

Some would like a car like this right off the showroom floor with a full factory warranty.

A10 is king of the dragstrip. I'm sure the DCT 7 speed would be great, but at what cost? My A10 shifts violent in drag mode, I don't believe the DCT 7 speed would offer much if any benefit in the 1/4 mile.

If Ford were ever to build a street legal strip car, do you really think it would come with a "full" factory warranty? Doubtful.

Since this thread is totally hypothetical, cost really doesn't matter. I would be interested in knowing which transmission is really faster.

Ohhh.....I'd think so. The shifts would be much, much faster with a DCT. And power loss would be lower, meaning more power to the wheels.

There's a reason the truly fast cars use DCTs.

But you'd have more RPM drop between shifts, taking the car out of it's power peak. Now a DCT 10 speed.......

Tell that to a 911S, C8, and tons of other truly fast cars.

DCTs man, they're the real deal.

The best thing would be to drop the GT500 trans into a PP2 car, and see what happens. THAT would be interesting to see.

The drag numbers are not that impressive for the GT500's. Just run a GT500 against a Lightly modded GT with a whipple (same rwhp) and you will see there isn't much difference. The A10 will save a ton of money though.

Here is a thought, a Base GT with the aluminator crate engine, a heavy duty A10, and magnaride with a special calibration for drag use and a rear seat delete and no sound deadening or carpet just a rubber mat. Throw in the torsen diff and some lightweight wheels and tires and drag radials for the rear. The could call it the drag pack option, and then you can install the power adder of your choice.
