Dodge came out with a model called 1320, Ford needs to eespond with a DRAG 5.0 model!
My concept car;
5.0 or 5.2 motor with a blower from the GT500, forged pistons and better rods, pushng the same horsepower
Or more than the 500.
E85 compatable with pumps and injecters that will allow an e85 tune.
A10 trans with high stall converter.
Transbrake, linelock, magnaride shocks and a drag mode switch or toggle with special launch calibration.
Light weight brakes and drag oriented front tires and rims, tall, skinny and light.
Rear wheels and tires would be 15 inch rims and a 28x12 tire similar to MT et street R. Lighten this car everywhere possible. No rear seats. No extra braces or apperance items, but optional for $1.
Performance box stock as shipped should be mid to low nines, or simply calibrate it for 10.00 ETs to keep the lawyers happy but provide a TRACK ONLY tuning devise. That devise, e85 and a pulley change capable of eight second ETs at 155 mph.
OK. Thats my idea, whats yours?

7.3 with a blower.
Very stout motor but the blower plus the 7.3 will add almost 300 lbs to the front of a stock GT. Could be done though, move battery to the back, other weight saving things to give the combo a proper weight balance.

Just have Henry the 3rd, along with a few execs head down to Bradenton in about 3 weeks, to FL2K20. There will be several GT’s there with pretty much that same set up, they can take notes from.

for a dedicated build, I wonder what they could do to lighten the motor some though, maybe get 100+ lbs off it. plus for a drag build I am sure they could lighten the overall weight some elsewhere. could go with some smaller lighter front brakes as well to shave a few lbs off the front.

Then be sure those same folks get a view of the competition. We want our Drag 5.0 to stomp any and all comers!

7.3 with a blower.
Brian Wolfe at Team Z motorsports is building a 7.3. It will be blown at some point but for now it has forged internals, 12.5 compression, extra ring gap for the boost to come, ported factory heads and a custom cam and custom intake manifold with an 87 mm TB. It made 789 hp on C-16 race gas, ALL MOTOR

I really am thinking of swapping 7.3s into my mud truck and my 71 mustang. I'd likely be spending close to 10gs anyways to get a 460 into the 750+hp range.

I know for a fact there will be a few 5.0’s set up like that already, including one that is the worlds fastest S550 5.0 10R80 Whipple supercharged car. It laid down a 8.40 in testing, and will be turning up the boost for FL2K, shooting to be in the 7’s.

Since Dodge sells the SS car factory stock running mid/low tens as it rolls off the dealers lot, Ford needs to build them, and like dodge, build as many as they can sell!

what is the dodge“SS car?” Are you talking about a COPO? They are limited run (69 a year I believe) and cost 150,000$ just to start, and then you have to win the right to purchase one. Ford already makes a factory drag car the Cobra Jet.

The SS from dodge is a street legal car and priced sub 100K. The COPO camaro, cobra jet mustang are race cars that are not street legal and priced well above 100K. Dodge even has a similar program, I believe they call theirs the drag pack.

What the OP was referring to is a street car that anyone can buy at any ford dealer for less than 100K and drive to the track, rip a low ten-high nine quarter mile time in street trim, and then drive it home.

I agree, ford should start with a GT 500 engine and drop it in a standard GT with a built 10R80 with a trans brake and high stall converter. Lighten the car as much as possible, and give it a special launch calibration for the magnaride.

The Mustang is the #1 modified car on Earth. Why in heavens name would you ask Ford to build a car like this? I’d be willing to bet you could do all of the things you asked for for far less than $100k. Besides each of you want something different. I can just see the thread with all the bitching about Ford not building it exactly the way you want it.
