We got Lebanon valley. They do open drags on weekends still. Cars and bikes. Tuner nights, etc. I ran my Built busa there years ago. It’s ten min away. Should bring the Mustang, but is stick and I prefer racing anymore. I’m an hour from lime rock.

I like road racing but it is getting to where I cannot afford it. I still can do track days in America but that is about it. Even then with the cost of tires, fuel and brakes, it is now a once a year deal for me.

Palm Beach raceway closed but they are looking at building another track Palm Beach

Orlando Speedworld, I live less than 2 miles south and can hear the racing which I like lol. The funny part is the track has a huge amount of conservation land around it to protect the land but with enough money paid they let you build on it anyway. Luckily Bithlo is still mostly a redneck community at the moment so might last for awhile longer.

Bradentons days are numbered I imagine given the approval of a housing development right next to the track. Story Huge opposition to the plan but was still passed anyway which shows that money happens.
Been to Bithlo many many times when I lived in Cocoa beach/Cocoa in the 70s to 93 when I moved to Bama. Raced a 74 Datsun 620 pickup and 64 tri power Goat there for years. Glad to hear it's still up and running.

I now live about an hour from Steele, AL where Alabama International Dragway is that's still a 1/4 mile strip and has test and tune Fridays at least twice a month if not more. It also hosted the Street Outlaws NPK TV show race series last year as well.

Heartland Motorsports Park in Kansas up for auction and current bid is $1k…. Anyone up to buying a track to save it?

you still have island dragway in hackettstown right? I'm in PA and we have a lot of tracks but I'm close enough to the NJ border to go to island dragway. Been there as a spectator never brought my car to run it yet. They have some pretty cool nostalgia events.

Has been a minute since I’ve been out there. I’ll be there through August.

Seems like people would rather dragy on city roads than bring 20$ and do it safely

Looks like even if you win it for 1.5K it comes with 3 Mil in back taxes owed. Plus no more NHRA national event to make any money.

I have 3 tracks whithin 1.5 hours drive.
I thought back taxes is still responsibility of the seller?

I don’t know if I or someone else chimed in (too lazy to read through all 8 pages 🤣) but we have 2 here in northern Illinois. Byron dragway (in Byron, IL just outside of Rockford) and Route 66 Speedway in Joliet. Route 66 still hosts NHRA Nationals as well, late May 2025 is the next one.

A lot of times they will pass the back taxes on to the buyer if the current owner is bankrupt. They don't care who pays the taxes, but someone will. Also if the property has been seized by the gov't then the new buyer will pay the back taxes.

I believe that the City of Topeka is who the taxes are owed to and the city took the track from the previous owner for them. That is why it is selling for so cheap as it comes with the back taxes owed. It's the city selling the track basically. It's a great deal for the money as the track had $25 million in renovations back in 2012ish. Used to do a lot of sport bike track days there, love that track!

yes and no. The popularization and increased legitimacy of “roll racing” is partly to blame.
yes it’s easier on parts but you can’t do it at a real drag strip. Now people set up cars with rolls in mind and wouldn’t go to a drag strip if it was free and in their home town. The increased popularity and cred given to roll racing has something to do with the demise of legit local drag strips. I’m just not sure if it’s the chicken or the egg.

Here in Bama it on Friday nights and its 20 bucks for as many runs as you can get in from 9pm till 1AM. So just depends on how many racers show up.

It might be time to consider switching to drag racing to get your speed and adrenaline rush fix. I’ve always had it in my mind that road course work was a lot more expensive than drag racing and based on what you’re saying, it sounds like it is. In a perfect world, I would like to do both types of racing.
