Does the oil consumption issue apply only to the f150? Looking to buy my first 3rd gen coyote mustang but worried about all the issues.

Burning oil is an emissions issue, and if it was a common issue, the epa would be on it like flies on shyt. But again the information age makes mountains out of mole hills so , YMMV.
Hello; I will take it that the 0.0001% of production issues is not a real number or that you cannot confirm the number.

I actually want the oil consumption issue to be a mole hill. Even in this thread a few Coyote owners have reported having to add oil between changes. Not something to be simply wished away. At least the focus is diverted away from the OP.

The EPA angle is interesting one. I cannot dispute it as i do not know the process. For decades i read and hear that cars are allowed to use up to a quart of oil in 500 miles and still not be considered excessive consumption by the makers. Somehow that does not gel with your argument. Again, I do not know the process EPA might use.

Between the long drivetrain warranty and relatively cheap and easy cost of replacing a Coyote engine, I never gave oil consumption a second thought when I bought my Mustang GT.

Hello; check to see if it burns oil...
Hello; Careful you will call down wraith on yourself.

But such would be good to do, but not possible. I get that the car has no warranty so nothing to fall back on once it is driven off the lot.

I’d be checking belts and hoses to start with as they can rot. I always wonder about seals etc in the engine if it is barely driven but it could be perfectly fine too if it was stored properly.

Hello; Actually a 0.0001 % level of production issues would be a big positive to me. That would be almost bragging stuff if true. I will ask if this is a number you are using as an example or is it possibly a real Ford number.

For decades I was a big Porsche fan. Even managed to own one for over 12 years. Did a lot of work on other folks Porches for a couple decades. I lost faith in the company with the IMS bearing issue from 2001 to 2009 in the flat six engine. Affected around 10% of the engines. Turns out frequent oil changes helped those engine survive.

But i understand the criticism. I do not currently own a Coyote engine so I must be posting in the wrong thread.
Then you should know better average porsches consume more oil than coyote!

Porsche says a quart of oil every 600 miles is considered normal. That's just one of the things that made me give up on the brand.

I guess you have never worried about replacing a Porsche or BMW engine.
Hello; back in the 1970's I could find engines out of a wrecked Porsche. But i get the point. Porsche is too expensive anymore. Always been more expensive than other brands. I went thru two engines on my personal 914 in a bit over 12 years.

Hello; Good points. Belts and hoses would be a thing to inspect for sure. The dash has a tire monitor failure notice, not a low tire warning. After i got home i looked the TMPS up and one thing is the sensors in the wheels have batteries. Bet they are the original and the batteries are dead.

The AC was working OK today, but one of my habits is to run the AC every week or two on my vehicles to keep the seals lubed and soft. Another thing to check.

Best I can tell the car was garage kept all the time. Looks real good. It is a Roush stage 2 if that helps. I figure the two previous owners drove it rarely. Less than 500 miles a year.

I did a lot of work for a guy who let his cars sit a lot so I know how bad sitting can be.
Thanks.

An acquaintance had the same year and model 997.2 cabriolet as I had. He had bore scoring. After getting it repaired, which took a year, the dreaded limiter switch in his PDK failed. Totals repair costs were $40k+ for the engine and $25k for the transmission. I sold my 997.2 and bought the Mustang shortly after hearing this.
