Because the Mazda 6 was built on the same line as the S197.

Back then, Ford had a controlling interest in Mazda (and Flat Rock used to be called the Auto Alliance Plant).

Later, Ford were building both S550 and Fusion at Flat Rock........that will now be S550 and Lincoln Continental.
