Must be old age, but I don't remember whether I provided my service/maintenance records with my vehicle(s) when I trade them in before. Do you guys do? If so, my thinking is that I would cut out my personal info from all invoices, etc.

Let's hear 'em people!

Private sale I offer everything I have related to the car minus most personal info. Trade in they just get the title generally.

Same here. The last time I sold a car private sale was probably 1980 something.

I have always kept a maintenance log (notebook) not actual invoices for my vehicles. When the vehicles are sold or traded in that stays in the glove compartment.

I imagine if you trade the car in and you give records, the records go right in the circular file. If you bundled them up with the owners manual, there’s a fair chance it would end up with the next owner, but it would have to be in the pouch with the books. Anything separate isn’t worth keeping track of to the dealer.

yeah I was thinking the same, that they probably don't give a crap about them.

It would help you in a private sale, but not as a trade in with a dealer.

I keep ALL my records, start a new folder for every car. That being said, it's strictly CYA because I usually trade-in and no one asks.

Nope - not when trading to a Dealership, they'll only loose it or trash it.

When selling to a private party, I'll show the docs or folder of docs and ask if they want them - it's up to the buyer if they want to continue keeping records.

Now I've seen Dealership consignment shops put in their ad that the car has paperwork and will show pics, but remember some of those shops work with customers on a more personal level. The clientele is more like you or me where they want anything they can get with the car for historical or maintenance records.

It's all on the Carfax, there's no need.

I'd offer it as a selling point if I ever sold one of my long-term cars outright. If you go by Carfax, the oil never got changed. :cwl:

I just toss them in the trash if I'm trading. Dealerships will just trash them anyway.

thanks all for your feedback - the trade in agreement was already done so I guess providing maintenance records when I pick up the new car is unnecessary =)
