A guy who lives down my street has an S550 Mercedes but he has added an "AMG" and also "Black" badges. the logic makes no sense because anyone who is a car guy knows what a "Black AMG" is and knows that its fake??? To the normal person its some random badge. This goes for any manufacturer and vehicle line.

In general - absolutely.

Those red "coyote" GT350R-like badges bug me a bit too.

They're obviously meant to look like that which is part of their appeal (I am sure I just started a flame with a whole bunch of people showing in this thread telling me that this is absolutely not why they put it on). I'd be embarrassed to pretend that my car is an R.

Badging up to a trim that your car isn't is just sad.

I had a '72 coupe at one time and my FIL told me I should put stripes on it and call it a Mach 1.... it wasn't even the correct BODY.

That being said, after seeing a Ford demo GT with the "Powered by Ford" fender badges instead of "GT", I thought that looked pretty good (but not for $90/pr!).

Only thing worse than fake badges is a fake car.

hahaha I remember seeing that on streetfire years ago before YouTube!!
Ok good so it’s not only me that feels this way.

Not a fan of fake badging. Stripes over the top is as close as I will come. That said they will not be in the same color scheme as a GT500, GT350, or Shelby stripe configuration of the same body series either. They are wider they and will be of a different color.

I'd sooner debadge a GT500 if I owned one so people would be less knowing of what was under the hood. Not that I would, but I go that way before fake badging my GT to look like a GT500.

I can see putting a COBRA front end on a 99-04 that has been FI (but not the badges) or putting a 07-09 GT500 hood on a 05-09 GT that has been boosted...but again no badges. A Cervini aftermarket grill or fog light delete for better air flow for modded setups I also understand.

The only thing worse than fake badging is doing an LS swap in a Foxbody IMHO.

No, fake badges don't really bother me. I might even smile when I see them. I have to admit that I feel condescension sometimes when I see a fake badge, though. It's like the feeling of realizing someone is wearing a toupee or growing their hair long and combing it a certain way. I get why, but I wouldn't do it and I think a little less of the person for doing it.

They are better than the self installed window tints, with air bubbles

Back when I was much ynger and into Chevies I'd go to the superchevy Sunday car shows/races. I Liked the first gen camaros so I'd always go look at them first. They looked great but there would always be at least one with a Z-28 emblem and when I looked at the car it was a 350 with auto trans.

Air bubbles are custom!

My buddy and I always talk trash about fake badges on cars. We have another friend that has a Lincoln grille on his F150 and we give him crap about that too. But I was tempted for maybe 5 seconds to put hybrid or EV badges on my GT when replacing the chrome 5.0s with black ones.

There was Lincoln-badged F-150 (Mark LT or something I think) so it is not that far off...
