Every 2 weeks I do my fuel blend of 2.5 gallons of E85 and 2 gallons of VP101 Racing unleaded. A stranger also putting fuel in his vehicle was admiring the Mustang and I started talking to him, I had a brain fart and I realized I put in 6.5 gallons of E85 instead of the 2.5 gallons. This brings me to an E40...the car ran fine on the way home but that could be the fuel that was left in the line. It was about 15 miles I drove in total to get home. How should I proceed. I am tempted to just take it on a long haul without pushing it and then top off with regular 91. Any thoughts?

You should be fine. The car will compensate. I think it will not throw a wrench light till the fuel trims go over 26%.

I'd just add another gallon of straight gas and drive it.

Where are you getting VP101 in Cali?

Just keep adding regular gas every 1/8th to 1/4 tank down and you'll be fine. I wouldn't drive it hard at high rpm until you feel you have most of the bad-mix out, but generally I don't think you need to worry.

Not sure if it's common outside S. Florida, but a lot of Wawa gas stations also have ethanol-free fuel that you can probably use to offset the ethanol.

Just drive normal until it's burned out. That means no high load or winding it out. You may get a lean code at some point. If you get active misfire codes then stop driving it and have the tank drained.

Thanks guys, regarding where I get VP101 I get it at VP Racing Fuel Gas Station in Lomita for 9.99 per gallon. I bring my 5 gallon fuel jug with me and fill it up. It lasts me a month

I calculate when it drops to 3/4 of a tank I top it off it would be an E30 blend

Hey sheep, in Cali we get true E85 otherwise it's taxed like regular fuel. I just had a brain fart talking to this guy and put too much in.
But if you are mixing it with gasoline, you won't know the true content/blend of ethanol. With the sensor in place, you will be able to always be certain that your ethanol % is within a few points of where you want it. at least +/- 10%

There are calculators out there that will get you in the ball park. The stations I use all have true E85 and test out sometimes to E87. I normally run an E25 to give me a little Kentucky windage regarding the ethanol content.

Calculator I use...

Have you considered just getting a dedicated E85 tune? Then you wont have to mix anymore and you'll gain some power. Gen 3 coyotes love ethanol, even N/A ones.

I think you could actually run 3-4 gallons of e85 and the rest 93 and the fuel trims would be about 15%. Shouldn’t throw a code and would get all the knock suppression you need with no tune required.

Worst case you get a lean code and it gets harder to start when cold.

Fwiw the 101 is overkill on an na engine with e85 blended in with 93.
Just 2 gallons of VP101 along with the 2.5 gallons of E85 the rest 91 octane. If I could get 93 Octane I wouldn't be messing with the VP101 at $9.99 per gallon. This gets me to just over 94 octane.

Thanks though👍

I want to keep the CARB EO Certification. I live in Cali, hence the 91 fuel.
