After I specifically asked the guy at check-in if they will be able to use the 2087 they used last time and he said yes. He must not have been really listening to me . . .

Saw it today on the invoice after I've driven it MAYBE 10 miles total. No issues and oil pressure seemed the same. I see from prior threads 2062s have been used before when 2087 wasn't available, so I'm assuming I'm fine for the next 3k miles or so (no track use but I get on it when I can)?

I have not found any threads where the 2062 was a failure on a 350 but a few failed on 500s I guess?

Call the shop and ask what filter they used. Just because it's listed on the invoice, doesn't mean that was actually used.
Once at a dealer after an oil change, I saw the invoice said 10w-40 oil, instead of the 5W-50. I questioned why, and they said that it's just programmed into the computer that way, and they did use the correct oil. I believed them because I watched them take a case of 5W-50, and pour the individual bottles into the engine.
Point is, don't assume they used the wrong filter, as that part number may not have been updated into the computer system.

Personally, having a 2062 vice 2087 would make me nervous--that's just me.

Unfortunately, there's no way for you to visually confirm which filter or oil they used.

So, if you're looking for peace of mind, the only way to get it is to take their word for it or change the oil and filter.

They installed it so if it blows up they owe you a new engine.

I got nothing else. I'd worry too and would probably change the filter myself.

That is my thought too . . . this is one reason I save all the documentation they give me. Although, I did sign off on it . . . the perils of this being my daily is that I have to get it back and can't leave it there!

I called and left them a message. Probably won't hear anything until Tuesday.

I wasn't able to get an eye on the filter for some reason . . . I know where it is but I could have sworn you could see it without taking the wheel off/getting underneath.

Bro…like literaly, I’m not even kidding..if they did install a 2067, your engine is a ticking time bomb. It could go at any second. Have you not seen the feedback from the two engines that hald a failed filter. You’re nuts! Get that shit out right meow.

Listing it for sale as I write this, I'm done!

But I hear you. No noticeable issues so far; if I remember right I thought I saw your name in one of the threads as having run the 2062 for a bit when 2087s were hard to come by, and had no issues?

I'm just going to wait to hear from them. If it was just an oversight and they had a 2087 ready I'm going to insist on getting it done right; if it's a part shortage issue, I'll see what they say and reassess. I think that's a logical way to handle it. I do agree with you that I would be surprised if my engine went from no issues at all to a 25k claymore because of the 2062 filter.

It’s more than likely that the parts catalog used lists the fl 2062 as the correct filter as it was and still is in the model years post spin on fl 2069, and Pre GT500/fl 2087 filter

Neither version has failed on either a GT350 or GT500. One of those rumors that won’t die.
Don’t worry about it.

Does the 2018 manual specify a 2062 or 2087? If it specifies a 2087, then go back and get the right one.

There are tricks to remove the oil filter without draining your oil. I'd be more concerned they didn't prime the system before they started than I would the filter failing.

I experienced this once before where a shop accidentally used the 2062 instead of the 2087 on my 2020 350R. I immediately noticed about 20psi lower oil pressure per the gauge on the dash so I had them change it to a 2087. What is your oil pressure showing? Is it the same or lower than before the filter change?

I think you will be fine either way but we all know you will be worried about it so get it swapped out!

Conclusion to the thread for those reading in the future: I made assumptions and was misinformed . . .

When I called the person to whom I spoke was VERY insistent that when they ran the VIN it called for the 2062. I figured that may be a sign I have missed something so I just dropped it and went searching. Found a thread here with a comment stating which years called for the spin-on filters, then which years had the 2062 listed in the manual, and then the final years that had 2087 listed (I can't find the comment right now). Just like btown93 said above . . .

When I actually looked at my supplemental manual, it says right there in plain English: "Use only a Motorcraft FL-2062 oil filter for maximum performance, reliability, and durability."

I saw so much content on the interwebs about the 2087 I just assumed that was the spec filter. I have noticed 0 issues oil-pressure-wise so I'm just going to leave it be.

Lessons:
1. Always be polite to people when asking about an issue; I'm glad I didn't make a scene and a fool out of myself (already called the dealership and explained they were right).
2. READ THE MANUAL FIRST

If I can find that comment again I'll post it here too.

So for the 2018 it does indeed say that the FL-2062 is the oil filter to use in the supplement; this is because the FL-2087 had not yet been launched when the 2018 supplement was printed (it made its first appearance for the 2019 MY GT350). In 2019 the FL-2087 superseded the FL-2062 in the Ford system and now all GT350s without the spin on filter should be receiving the FL-2087 (or FL-2087-A which has now superseded the FL-2087).
