it has 4k resolution and if you use the larger format memory card you can up the bit rate to capture license plate numbers ect. I'm very happy with it. Let me see if I can get some stills out of it later today and post them

So I'm actually running the A129, I had to look at the box. Anyways these screenshots are just that, simple. I was playing the video in windows media player and just screenshot as it played. I'm sure there are better ways to do this.

Overall point is qualitative measurement of dashcam's image quality is tricky. Ambient conditions and lighting play such an important role. Now I also see that my HP wing addition is obscuring license plates to my rear!

The camera is 4k up front, and only 1080 in the rear.

Hmmmm, the actual images are better. You can clearly see the plate numbers.

it seems when I upload them to the forum, some reduction is going on. Sorry best I could do.

That's the exact same one I'm rocking in my Bullitt and wife's F150.
I did notice that with tint and the angle, the rear isn't as clear as yours I don't think.

The A229 Pro Duo you initially mentioned is a 2k rear (compared to this one at 1080). Wonder if that's worth the upgrade, but IMO, 4K for front is a must and I wouldn't go lower (if I could help it).

In reality the images are better, when I upload to the forum it shrinks them a bit and I think some loss is going on.

Agreed, a 4K front is a must, I'd give the 2K rear a shot, I'd like to see the difference too. Getting the rear angle just right was a bit tricky.

What I was trying to show, is even at speed, as long as the other car is close enough, even in an adjacent lane, you can capture plate numbers. You might have to play back the video in a media player and grab the best frame, but its certainly possible. Just wish I could accurately show images on here, I'd say they are 10% better in reality or as shown on media player.

I run a VIOFO 64GB card, honestly if I had to purchase again I'd get an even bigger one, 64GB goes quickly at 4K high FPS. yes it automatically deletes and overwrites, so I don't have to mess with it, but obviously more cycles of this will reduce the life of the card.

I have A129 duo with 1080 rear, but I recommend the 2k rear and pay extra for it.
I use 256GB cards exclusively. Get a quality card, due to the heat, and constant over-writing. I keep a spare card in each car, just so I can keep things recording if I need to store the first card temporarily until a more convenient time to review something.

Did you buy an add-on for the rear? Are they compatible, i.e. same cables etc?

I bought as a F/R combo. You have to run the long cable for the rear cam into the headliner and then it plugs into the front cam. The front cam wire runs down the A-pillar and into the fusebox (#2 and 23 IIRC).

I added the 3-wire parking PS, which makes it behave smarter when parked as well as protects against low-battery drain. I also added two Polaroid filters which cuts glare in the image. You can search my UN for other posts with photos of my install.

The front and rear filenames are identical save for 'F' and 'R' in them. You can review files on the cam, or your phone (in a urgent situation), but I tend to eject the uSD card and put it into my laptop for better convenience, control, and speed.

See my post #56 for a good deal right now. Just click on that image.

Yeah yeah, I get all that. :)
I have an A129 Pro Duo myself for the past 4yrs (since the Bullitt was new). Which I have with a hardwire kit and rear cam wired just like you.
My question was to you about the rear cam, you said you upgraded to 2K. The Pro Duo (unless something recently changed) comes with a 1080p rear.

So I was wondering if you had the A129 Pro Duo kit and then additionally bought a 2K camera you placed at the rear to get better than 1080p resolution.

Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, I misunderstood.

When I got our cams they did not offer more than 1080 rear rez, and I have stayed with those. I do not have hi-rez rear cams. I wish I did, but I don't plan to buy them.

I suppose the rear cam is useful in parking lots. Cars drive slow enough to read license plates and watch what else happened.

On track days, I flip my rear cam around and put it on a second mount so that it is angled towards me and the display.

Any chance you have those A129 install pics handy? I tried searching for them and came up empty.
