So I ordered a set of take off PP wheels and tires Monday and just received them today. Advertised as having about 50 miles on them.
When I went to put them on, I noticed on the last wheel I put on the rear, that there were a lot of cracks between the tread blocks.

Pics below:

I'm contacting the seller, Athens Ford Parts, out of Georgia to see if they can send me another one and I'll send this wheel and tire back to them.

Main question for now is, is it ok to drive on them like this for a week or 2 until I can figure out if they'll swap or something? Or should I even bother getting it swapped?

There are about 6-8 such cracks around the rear tire. Nothing on the other 3.

I cant say I have ever heard of a tire that new doing that !! Not sure I would trust that tire on my new Mustang to be honest. If it blows they will say its your fault for using it.

I lived in Michigan for 18 years and none of my tires cracked from the cold however I did have them crack from sitting all winter on the cold concrete in the garage but those tires should not be doing that already unless its not the original tire

Any of the dealers or vendors, have you seen this happen before?

Do not drive on those tires. Had a friend some years ago buy a set from Ebay that had obviously been sitting for a long time in warehouse. He installed anyway and blew out a tire on HWY at high speed. He was very lucky nothing happened.

I have seen this crack before but on the MPSC2 during very cold weather.

Pirelli has had that occur also.

2 things please check

1 what is the date of production on the tire? ( just like to check all corners)
2. Was this combination stored in a cold location?

and or it could be a bad tire, is this the only tire that is like this?

I'll check tonight if it stop raining for a bit.

No clue, as I got them on eBay from a Ford dealer in Georgia just this week.

Only the one rear, the other 3 look normal. I gave them a thorough going over after I noticed that tire.

Thanks Paul!

I'm waiting for the internet sales guy at the dealership to give me a call back, hopefully today. We'll see how they choose to deal with this...

Sorry I cannot really say on this as I work remotely of our service department. Were the tires over inflated by chance?

Yellow stripe tells me they're brand new but the tread appearance says otherwise and I don't mean the crack.

They're not brand new, as I stated in the first post... They are take offs with a couple of miles on them. I also went on a short test drive after mounting them to check if they were balanced, before I noticed the cracks.

Today the internet sales guy said his manager was back in the office and he would let me know how they will handle this. He said most likely they'll give me a return shipping label to send it back in and send me another. Hopefully his manager isn't a dick lol

Check the tire build date on the sidewall, should be a four digit code, it will be something like 4314, meaning 43rd week of 2014. We don't mount any tires over 12 months old at my work.

Hope this helps.
