I just went to do my first oil change on my 2017 at 1000 miles (I know it's unnecessary but that's not what this thread is about.) Bought a Motorcraft FL-500S filter like most folks recommend, and I could not get that filter to thread on. I tried for about five minutes, no joy. Wiped down the old filter and threw it up there and it threaded on the first time, zero fuss.
The factory filter had only a "Motorcraft" label with no part number which I thought was bizzare. It was also physically shorter than the FL-500S replacement, but the mating surface looked to me to be identical.
Is it possible Ford made a change with the 2017's or did I just draw the short straw and get a bad filter?
