It's the same car.... it just has a fixed roof.

???
I hate fixed roofs on anything with 2 doors. Besides, the Cayman feels claustrophobic. At least Boxster top goes down, so it doesn't feel so tight.

I put my name down to order a 718 GT4. Hope thereā€™s an allocation left for me. Iā€™ve had a few 914s over the years and just plain loved em. Lately, the only Porsche Iā€™ve had access to is a ā€˜14 911 turbo S and itā€™s such an amazing car, dated at this point, but still amazing.

Iā€™ll still keep my Mustang as itā€™s a great ride too!
Let us know how the 718 GT4 is when you get it. It's in my shopping list as well. Think any Porsche is much more car than the Mustang out of the gate. Though the Mustang has much more aftermarket support and should be a lot cheaper to maintain / drive. A friend of mine have a 2010 Cayman S and it's handling amazingly didn't drove it yet though. On the track from time to time there is a 718 Cayman GT4 race car and on the straight the Mustang is as fast as it but on the corners with the slicks and light weight that car fly. The track in question is 3 km track and the fastest time of that Cayman is 18 seconds faster than the fastest time of the Mustang.

mustang is lots of bang for the cost.
if I had lotsa money to blow a Ferrari or Lamborghini would be well ahead of a Porsche. Aka ā€œflat beetleā€

I have a '01 Boxster I bought for $5K,
I keep thinking about selling it but its just too darn fun to "flick" around the streets.
You really have to try hard to upset the Porsche while the Mustang has to be respected in corners.
There is something to be said for 50/50 weight distribution.
Secondly, that flat 6 on full boil is quite sexy like the V8s in our Mustang (not the same sound but more like Blond / Brunet).
You cannot say that of a V6 sound....

You really think a 2006 350Z handles better than a 2020 Porsche 718 with 50/50 weight distro?
Really?
You're serious? I got to drive my friends 718 its not the S version just base. It handles light years better than any Mustang I ever owned, not even close and I have owned 5 diff Mustangs. I have never driven a 350z so I don't know about that.

You have to own a Porsche for a while to really appreciate it. A test drive is not going to do it.

I can only speak for a GT4, own a 2017 Mustang GT also. The GT4 will smoke the Mustang GT in every category, not even a comparison. I couldnā€™t let my 17 Mustang GT go it was a retirement gift and continues to run like a champ. Waiting on the JCR exhaust.

Having driven a few Boxsters, a Cayman GTS 4.0 is on the short list for the next fun car....

However, the big sticking point for me is the nearest dealer/service is a couple hours away.

lol the maintenance/service cost on any of those three choices would use up a big chunk of that new found money.

Keep in mind, those with the money usually don't think the same as those without the money and vice a versa.

There are also some that have lots of money that would never spend it on high dollar cars that are not an investment. Now what they might consider as high dollar, I don't know :)

Solid review. I love Porsches. Especially the 911 GT2. I drove it and I want it but the maintenance and all that noise is time consuming and expensive. Maybe when (if) I retire. 30 years to go.

I spent a year cross shopping before I ended up in the Bullitt.

I found the same on the 718 (4cyl) Cayman and Boxter. As an owner of a 76 912 (911 with 4cyl) I really wanted to like the 718 and have two 4cyl P cars. But I found them bland, and disappointing. All but one were PDK's. I also drove a 6cyl Boxter S and Cayman GTS, but the Boxter had a bad carfax and the GTS was still in the mid 60's.... My self imposed budget was $50K. The GTS was brilliant, but I did find the Cayman a bit smaller than I wanted.

I looked at a bunch of 911's but at my price point I didn't want to drop 50K on a 9-10 year old car.
Money aside, I'd prefer a 2014 or newer 911 Targa S.

My take away was that the modern 4cyl motor wouldn't cut it.

All that said, I'm thrilled with my Bullitt.

I agree with everything you said. Stepping up to the 911s changes things but also empties the wallet a lot faster.

I have driven , just normal street driving a few 911. Good quality and OK. Really nothing special imho. I find a Ferrari or Lamborghini much much more entertaining to drive.
Looks are subjective, but I canā€™t get it out of my head that the 911 is a beetle descendant. Thatā€™s just me.
When you walk away from a car and just donā€™t look back, well that seems to be the 911 for many people I know, including myself.
I do respect the like that some have for them, I just struggle to see how And have noticed that owners are very conservative and refined for the most part.

Sold a 2015 Cayman GTS after acquiring a 2020 Mustang GT Deluxe with PPI. The Cayman had the 3.4 motor out of the 2015 911, down 10 HP to 340. The Mustang sounds so much better, handles like a race car...and the 10 speed automatic is awesome...adding the PowerPack 2, want that extra 21 HP, this way I'll have one more HP than the 2021 Mach 1. No regrets on the car swap.
Curious, I wanted a 981 S / GTS before buying the Mustang (wife wanted "back seats")...

Did yours have an exhaust? The 3.4L with an exhaust sounds intoxicating and IMO is a way better driving experience than the Mustang.

That being said, I do love my Mustang but still want a 981.
