"At least in theory. The extraction of lithium can, depending on the methods used, emit vast amounts of CO2, contaminate groundwater with dangerous heavy metals, and guzzle tons of fossil fuels. Its environmental toll shouldn't be overlooked in the rush to green transportation infrastructure."

"For these reasons, the project has been mired in controversy. Conservationists have tried to block mining in the area, believing it would violate environmental laws. They're joined by Native American activists, as Thacker Pass is considered sacred by some local tribes."

Hello; So after the restriction from oil drilling in Alaska recently, this will be at some levels enlightening. Will it be OK to mine for lithium at the site in spite of environmental activism against such?

Will the Native Americans sacred spot be less important than lithium for EV batteries. Ought to be a bigger deal that the name of a football team, which i miss.

Dare i leave out the jewel about the mining process may "guzzle tons of fossil fuels." Reminds me of the back and forth with Burkey a while back concerning the huge amount of emissions released during the building and instillation of a single wind turbine. Somehow the immense release of such emissions, including Co2, immediately is not supposed to count as in some distant future time the wind turbines will be some more clean that a fossil fuel power plant. Add to this the fact there can be hundreds of wind turbines in a single farm.

Where have you been. Every attempt is made here to destroy any type of domestic production on just about every level.

Will not matter, because just like drilling here for oil, it will be sent packing buy the same green terrorist pushing for an all ev future.
Remember folks, it is all good as long as it falls into this . N.I.M.B.Y. !!

You wait and see. They are not done fighting this. Mark my words
Hello; I agree that the native tribes and environmentalist will try to slow down or stop the mining. A thing seems to be since it is part of the "green" energy agenda the agencies that will restrict "fossil fuel' drilling and coal mining apparently are on board with lithium mining. It is the irony of the deal that stands out.

I do not like pollution. I do happen to want my food grown and delivered. I concede a need for mining, drilling to provide the energy for these basic needs. So mining and drilling are necessary. Some pollution will be associated. Lithium mining, coal mining, drilling for crude & natural gas and all the other such things ought to be done as cleanly as is possible and practical. So I am OK with lithium mining if that does make for benefits to us all. I do not see it as an either -or. We ought to be able to have ICE's, BEV's, coal fired power and green power.
