Thinking about a Cai, don't want to spend a fortune. Who's got what, and what do you recon??

Current favourites for me are Roush, or JLT... Air raid are out due to not having a removable insert. Not keen on PMAS following comments on here regarding build quality....

Just buy GT 350 intake, $200 with snorkel from Ford direct in USA. Should be around $300 shipped with around ÂŁ50 duty to pay on delivery. Guess how I know! ;)

You would however need a custom tune, which SCT would not cater for.

JLT: SCT have tunes for this, so you can enjoy the extra power, it sucks a lot of hot air though but you could do some custom modding to help reduce that. Worth a good 10BHP with insert removed and tune adjusted as such.
Roush: Will work with SCT regular tune or Ford stock map with insert left in place, shields against heat much better, in theory should see gains with insert removed but not so many people seem to have gone with this setup state side. Another thing the Roush will have nicer throttle modulation and drive ability as it was designed by Ford/Roush.

JLT throttle mapping will be jumpy as the big giant smooth tubes are great for power and WOT, but they do loose some part throttle modulation, just something to be aware of.

For me drive ability trumps horsepower, that is why I have gone GT 350 CAI.

you can always take the maf insert out put a bigger maf in when you want to tune it if you've gone with lund or someone just tell them you've changed the maf and they should be able to give you the different tune no problems.

Our Windstorm line has a removable, cleanable filter that would work fantastic for your setup and also looks GREAT!

PMAS.

Tis the bestest.

The airbox is a little rough around the edges, but the rest is spot on. And its the only aftermarket CAI proven to give any sort of result.

It's the "bit rough around the edges" bit I don't like.... there are plenty of YouTube vids showing other Cai's that work:)

You shouldn't have to but you could clean it up yourself quite easily.
Yup, tis on my to do list.

A bit of generic rubber seal over the edges would be good enough.

Considering they are a bit bloody expensive, im not sure why PMAS send them out like that...

I looking at the design of various cai there appear to be two basic types:
1. Closed air box that source air from the front of the car via a snorkel
2. Open top that source air from the US spec bonnet vents.

See here for pics
http://www.americanmuscle.com/2015-...es.html#2015-mustang-cold-air-intakes-shopby1

Now it strikes me that unless you fit hood vents or have a US market car with them installed by default, the second type will starve the engine of air or suck hot air via any gaps that can be exploited from the engine bay. Hence us folks in Europe must surely opt for the first type or cut holes in our bodywork...
The roush intake appears to be open top but fitted with a snorkel so I guess this gets massive forced crossflow airflow if you have vents.
Am I missing something? Discuss...
