Hey guys, I was out yesterday and decided to do a WOT pull. I was cruising at about 75kmph and moved the transmission from D to S and put the peddle to the floor. When I floored it, it got stuck in 3rd gear and the vehicle didnt really move. Then it had a hard lurch gear change and caught, taking off. Afterwards I could smell burn rubber, this couldnt be the tires as I was moving around 100kmph so I was sure it was the clutch.

Any idea how or why this could happen? I just took another drive and tried to recreate it but it did not happen again.

No it's tires. The clutches would smell like burning brakes or burning metal.

Hey man, thanks for the reply! I've done countless 1/4 mile runs and haven't smelled tires in the cabin while traveling 70+km? Smelling burnt rubber was just my first phrase. What would explain the non-reaction of acceleration while RPM's climb then a sudden catch and take off?

70km is about what... 44mph and you punch it in Sport mode... I dunno you just might have been spinning your tires, and then they finally hooked up and off you went.

What were the conditions? Cold/Wet/Swarms of Locusts?

If you really think the transmission was slipping then I would take it to the dealer and have them look it over.

I agree with the others, doesn't sound like the trans is slipping but sounds like wheel spin. You won't smell rubber when clutches slip, there's a distinct smell.

Also if a clutch is slipping, the the engine free revs without the car going anywhere. That doesn't sound like what you experienced. And your car doesn't have a clutch, it's a torque converter with many many many small clutches in the transmission.

What mode were you in when you went from D to S?
How high did the rpms go? Did you bump the rev limiter?
I know my little EB in second at 44 mph is already approaching 5k.
I'd hope a GT in 2nd would spin the tires when flooring it at 44mph.
If you were truly in 2nd and floored it my guess is you spun the tires and hit the rev limiter.

10R80 clutches are wet clutches as far as I know so you wouldn't be able to smell them even if they were slipping. Was the traction control light flashing when this happened?
